a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

.......I'm back in the game !!!!! just bought myself a nice little MPI Coop, first posh mini i ever owned ! two owners from new full history all receipts kept. 77k on the clocks. has full stage three kit with 1:5 full roller rockers.

bad bits are there is the expected rustitis all over the shop...well not really.
the lip on thye drivers sill is on its way, but the main sill inner, outer and top are all good, there is a tiny patch in the drivers footwell where it meets the wheel well which is save'able, front pannel is tired and the wings are showing age, scuttle corners are solid but center lip where the screen mounts there are a few blebs...it has not infiltrated to the bulkhead yet so its an easier fix than a full scuttle repair....... door pillars and doors are good, floor pans are good, heel board and boot is perfect, subbys are mint...... engine runs great (brake servo is questionable the brakes seem hard and take some force when applying like pre servo setups, i have done the usual test on startup and the servo is charging upon startup.......must be me forgetting mini brakes)

oil leaks on the back of the gear box, but all in all i think i did well for 1K ! taxed for 6months and has 12months test

anyroad i am back, here are the pics. will fettle the body work and eventually drop her onto 10's (deepdish ultralights with either white or gold centers) car goes like shit off a stick for what it is shit loads of pull left in the engine.

nah i may pop her onto 10's she is a genuine jobby all the receipts and service stamps are present, and so far she has had no welding up done that i can see.

drivers window does not work so i took the door to bits to find the rail on the glass had rotten away, yet the door is pristine.... the black patch in the paintwork appears to have been attributed to a big lump of fibreglass put on the inside of the door skin, wonder if the heat of this going off has discoloured the paint ? i chipped a bit of the fibre glass away and the door is ok i cant understand why it had been put on ????

still not 100% happy with the brakes, will have a look at them, i wonder if the calliper is seized as the car has been stood for a long time, the pedal is rock hard you get piss poor braking until you really jam your foot down at which point the wheel obviously locks up.

Love the colour. Sounds more like the servo to me.

That little white running man means it was once sold by Miniman (run by an old mate of my dads, John Palmer) in the Midlands. Miniman only sell nice cars, no shit, so at one point it will have been very tidy.

I had a mini that had once been a miniman car. Wasn't tidy when I got it, but it had been parked up for a few years and repaired using newspaper and filler.....

will eventually turbo it, hence my previous thread on how turbo'able is an mpi engine.... wouldnt want to cut the bulkhead so would need to run a T2 + Mirage manifolds.

well front screen came out tonight and the lip on the scuttle is gone, it has creaped through onto the dash in a couple of places but nothing that is not fixable, just deciding if i can get away with perhaps welding a new rib in for the glass or if it is going to be a full on scuttle removal (which i dont want to do as its over my capabilities and i dont want to lose the chassis number)

A full skuttle should be easy enough. Just take your time and make sure finish it of before your start something else....

just keep rubbing it in Andy *hehe!* mate whilst building the last one i had lost two members of my family and got into finacial debt (ie lose the house) on more than one occasion hard to focus on the project........but yeah i will finish one job before starting the next :)

as the whole car will need painting (outside) is it worth going back to bare metal and putting a zinc oxide etch primer on ?

cheers Rosco every little helps as they say

Any progress Richie? I like MPI's *smiley*

I'd have another one if I had the space for one.

Whoooarr boobies !!!!!

going ok, scuttle is deffo going to have to come out, got the passenger a pannel and wing off, glass out, all the trims etc off. will take drivers wing and a pannel off (A pannel is ok but i figured for what they cost just do the whole lot and be done with it)

been bouncing my time between the garden, the tank, and the mini....... funds are lower than expected as i had a 400 quid hit on the golf to get her through her MOT but she is all good now.

anyone know of a good pannel supplier that wont take your eyes out ? my local one is shut, but to be fair i used to have to order four sets of everything to get one that actually fit the car.......

will need:-

scuttle
outer wings (both sides...with repeaters)
both A pannels
Front pannel 1998 MPI

Bear in mind the MPI wings are different too Richie for the adjustable headlights.

If you can afford it hold out for genuine wings and front panel.

Are you coming down to Steve's anytime soon? Minimod near here has a few genuine Rover MPI front panels in still I think.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
