right, it's starting to get on my tits now. Everything is new, it's adjusted right and the system is bled with no air left in the lines.

Spec of the arrangement is u/l flywheel, grey diaphragm, race/rally plate. All the actuation bits are standard.

I built the clutch up made sure the drive straps were level when all torqued up both when mocked and when in situ.

My problem is that when the pedal is depressed the revs drop a tiny bit (circa 200 rpm) but I am unable to get any gears when the engine is running.

Does anyone have any ideas so I don't have to pull the engine again tomorrow as I'd rather not.

Help much appreciated gents and a mars bar for the winning answer...if I do need to take it apart I will make sure I take plenty of pictures

try starting the engine with it in first and your foot on the clutch. Just don't try it too many times and make sure you've got a clear runway *wink*

i'm sure we had similar issues with keans when we first built it, spent a good 2 days trying to get the clutch working even though it was all new and adjusted fully.

but yeah could just be something dragging/sticking, worth a try anyway.

Can i have a snickers if it works, not a massive fan of mars, lol *tongue*

Anyone mind giving me a quick list of clearances to check when I pull it apart at the weekend?

have you tried dumping the clutch return spring? you really dont need it and it gives more travel on the clutch

ok, how about pumping the clutch pedal like mad and then holding it down with a lump of wood against the seat and leaving it over night? it bleeds the air out

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

if the cutch slave cylinder is going all the way out and the grey diaphram is engaging

i would suggest a sticking clutch plate on the splines of the primary gear ?
this needs to be nice and free

can you get someone to press the pedal while you measure how much the release bearing plunger moves?

its not the ball broke of the clutch arm is it?

clutch plate is deffo the right way around. I was paranoid about that when I put it all back last time. I will measure how far it moves tomorrow morning when it is light again

If it is the plate sticking on the primary gear what's the best way to sort this?

clean the splines on both with something like brake cleaner,

slide the plate on the primary, and slip it back and forth to check it moves smoothly, if its notchy get some 600 grit wet and dry in the grooves.

oh and I reckon on not putting lube on the splines.

What condition is the clutch arm ? Clevis pin ? Thrust bearing plunger ?

If these parts are too worn the slave cylinder goes to its full travel (stops against the cir-clip) but still doesnt release the clutch properly.

You've clearly checked a lot. But now it is time to remove things. I suspect your primary gear is not spinning on the crank personally....

could be on the right track if its the floating bush and it hasn't got the chamfer on it to clear the crank radius thing.

Think he means the ring thats chamfered on one side that goes behind the primary gear (pretty sure it goes behind the primary gear, dunno why ive forgotten!).

Althought I remember you checking this was the right way round when trying to sort this bastard out before hand.

i know i had an issue years ago when those floating primary bushes came out, they didn't have a chamfer on them to clear the radius on the crank that they sit against.

whether it'll be the casue of your problems i don't know but worth a look if you start stripping it down.

Got thinking last night. could an overmachined backplate cause these issues?

Was just thinking that I might have had too much material removed...
