Hello,
My names Tom, im a 19year old Mechanical Engineering apprentice from Stoke-on-Trent.

My best mate and girlfriend both have minis so it was inevitable I got the bug.
I had my first mini back in February as a unfinished project, Spent loads of time after getting it roadworthy and reliable, as it's my daily drive. It was a massive learning curve but sooooo worth it in the end because nothing makes me happier than going for a late night drive down some twisty B-roads!
Its a 1982 Austin mayfair, fully re-built and running a MG metro 1275 (stage 1)

So basicly, i'm hooked. *happy*

Anyways the reason i've joined here is because i've got a opportunity to obtain an 1380 Metro turbo engine, built up to Metro challenge cup specifications from a good mate of mine that he's never put in his kitcar (he went for a bike engine instead).
Not entrely sure of the specification just yet (will know this weekend) but i've been told its had the Full Monty of engine builds, and before he had it it was fully reconned from the bottom up. Just wondering how much something like that should be worth?

I think I know a fair bit about A-series engines (i've gotten quite intimate with mine!) But one thing I keep hearing is turbo'ing them is not a good idea, of course im open minded so I just want to ask your opinions on drive ability and reliability?

My plans are to de-tune the engine (but only slightly) to make it more senseable for daily use, lower boost and a milder cam ect ect..

Anyways thanks for reading and I hope to stick around for a while and ask more questions!

ta!

Hello and welcome.

A properly executed turbo conversion is the best thing to happen to an A series *smiley*

Good news! I'm getting more and more convinced by the minute to go for it, I'll worry about the insurance when I get to it!

Thanks for the welcome by the way!
