I am setting up my clutch and to get the straps flat i need to remove 80 thou off the spacers.

Should i just remove from the spacers or do 40 thou from the backing plate horns and 40 from the spacers?

which is best to do or does it not make a difference?

What I did was first machine the backing plate lugs to get the spring flat (as per the recommendations in several other threads) and then machined up new spacers to get the drive straps flat to match.

If your spring is already right and you machine the lugs just to correct the drive straps, the spring will then be wrong as the lug height determines the spring compression (flatness).

ahh right i think understand.

So i need to put it all together and get the spring on the diaphragm flat?

Then machine the spacers as required to get the drive straps flat.

Unless the spring isnt flat and and i need to machine some off the lugs then correct the spacers as per the lugs after the spring is flat.

Basically, Spring flat first.

There are quite a few threads on machining the lugs, here's when I asked the question 18 months ago http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=215279
If you search the most common answers are "1.5mm" or "spring flat" or "spring nearly flat". I measured it all first as you never know what the production tolerances are especially as I was using an aftermarket (lightweight) flywheel.

But the sequence must be to do the lugs first (if they need) it and then adjust the spacers (only) to get the drive straps flat.
