Hi guys, I've done a search but can't find anything.
Has anyone lightened the standard winder mechanisms on the mk3 onwards doors?

Cheers

Specialist components offer an ellectric window kit which is a lot lighter than wind up windows.

Cheers, the car in question is a car that has to have wind up windows due to the rules under which it'll be competing... if it was made with wind up windows, it has to have wind up windows...

I lightened my winders by about 250g each. Then realised I had wasted my time, as the roll cage prevented window opening with the doors closed.

Was that due to your door bars?
How did you lighten them if you dont mind me asking

If I ever have any money again, I will be investing in a set for my car

looks like it just bolts in in place of the standard stuff, then just run a few wires

Excuse the massacre of the mechanism. there is more that could out, the arms that move the window could do with a line of holes

then did this to the door

It all got tidied up, then thrown in the bin though as this happened to get welded in after I'd lightened everything.

I have the W&P kit, I have trial fitted it to my doors, it is pretty easy, and comes with paper templates so you can get the holes you need to drill in the right place.

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

I fitted electric windows to mine years ago. It was either Minispares or W&P, either way it fitted ok & is miles lighter than the standard "windy" windows.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
