I need to know which outlet is front and which is the back brakes? It is the servo'd type lay on its side from an early 90s cooper if I remeber correctly.

From my memory I thought the end nearest the front of the car was for the front brakes!!!

HELP lol I'm in the middle of knocking up all the new brake lines

i asked a similar question but about servo brakes, i got a mixed answer unfortunately, pictures i found seem to go against what was being said im still looking for a definitive answer

i think (but dont quote me ) the port closest to the pedal feeds the front

i think this point the same way too, i make out that the port closest to the bulkhead feeds the top left ( front circuit)

That would probably make most sense that way around.

That would apply the front brake marginally before the rears.

Have you got yours plumbed in? how do they feel in use?

its for a guy i know so cant comment, i have a yellow band master cylinder, and my calipers are sat in my bedroom so they dont go pitted,
i may well be going single line yet, my master cylinder has seen better days*happy*

I have a brand new yellow band cylinder which I'm plumbing in to do away with the old single circuit cylinder.

Non-servo so it's vertical.

It's a genuine AP one and has a leaflet included that the connections are opposite to the dual circuit black band cylinder on the early 80's Minis.

Comparing it to my son's Mini (black band) I make it that the connection at the bottom (ie, nearest the mounting flange) would be rear on a yellow band.

Unless someone can demonstrate otherwise, that's how I intend to connect it (but using the rear subframe pressure limiting valve, not that thing on the bulkhead on later Minis).

BTW, its nothing to do with applying one circuit earlier - with hydraulics it all happens at the same time (so long as their is no air in the system) - but with the yellow band cylinder the bores are two different sizes so they produce differerent pressures. (black band was equal sized bores).

Cheers Brett, I'm a little closer than I was before. Where did you get those pics from?

I hope someone else comes along soon, lol I need to get my brakes done very soon.

There must be someone here with bog standard brakes with servo.

I will also be using the rear pressure limiting valve but mount up on the bulkhead as recommended by Keith Calver to make adjustments to bias easier.

So still not any further forward lol..... but thanks anyway Rod S
