Yeah,im not sure of the benefits either.Maybe you can position a 6 point to sit either side whereas a 5 point will just mash your tackle should the worst happen? On 20th Jan, 2011 apbellamy said:

Think I'd agree with the "either side" comfort of a 6 point. 5 point I don't see the logic of, sounds too much like landing on a bicycle crossbar/ stem.

6 point definitely. The two straps attach to a plate which spaces them meaning no bollock mashing.

im no girl but i didnt like how 6 points felt, the harnesses i used that were 6's has a huge bulky metal clip and where i positioned the harness buckle ment it bedded into my crotch regardless...not too comfortable (maybe i drive like a retard?)

The crotch strap is an anti submarine strap, to stop you sliding down out of the harness in a crash. In boost we trust |

maybe. Are 5 points for girls? LOL Hi :) Well, I'm having a race seat fitted to my GTi this month and also need an harness. Seriously..... i have no idea which would be safest or most comfortable. But I'm really looking forward to being fitted up at Demon Tweeks Especially if I get that dark handsome sales guy again
Anyhow, is it correct that you cannot use a race harness whilst driving on the road? I drive my GTi to events you see........ Suck, squeeze, bang, blow........ |

Read http://www.schroth.com/installation-instru...s/en/index.html and this thread http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=281683 6 point is much safer basically. |

Don't forget the fact the Harness is only as strong as what it is attached to.

My Mini went through a couple of MOTs with a harness in. Some production sports cars are equipped with them too I think? In fact I believe it's dangerous to run with a cage and "no harness"; in the event of a crash you can whack your head on the the roll hoop if you are only wearing a seatbelt. Similarly if you have a harness with no roll cage you're a bit screwed if you crash and land upside down bending the B pillar - a seatbelt would also allow you to be thrown sideways (hopefully) not crushing your bonce. Harnesses hold you in place as the roof comes caving in. Rather extreme examples of course! But then the whole point of cages and harnesses are to save you in rather "extreme" crashes (my mate is a traffic cop - rolling and ripped off roofs/ bent B pillars are worringly common I'm told )

Mountings aren't a problem as they are all tied into the rollcage.I think im going to go for the 6 points after hearing everyones views.

Dave Thanks for the info, Dave :). Another question for you all! I expect some insurance companies won't insure road cars with roll cages? I've heard that they consider its a sign you may drive enthusiastically and hence have fitted the cage as a precaution. Its madness in my mind when you consider that cars get reduced insurance for having impact bars and airbags fitted. Have any of you guys had a problem with it??
