Hello

Im Ed and i used to drive a 1971 mini 1000 with an 1100, 295 Head, twin Hs2's, 1275 box until someone hit me and wrote the poor bugger off...

i bought an MGB, but that was expensive for all the wrong reasons and i missed driving a mini....

so...

the plan, fix the mini and add some extra fun....

I went to bingly hall mini show at the weekend and picked this up:

its a start i guess...

plan is to turbo the 1100, hoping for around 90-100hp...

heres my mini known as 'The Bean' before the crash...

i shall start a project page when i get started... prob around easter... for now ill be gathering parts and advice...

Ed

Hello and welcome,

Yeh is best to read the how to and FAQ sections, there are some very knowledgable guys who have taken the time to write some excellent posts.

My 2 cents is to make sure you slightly over spec your clutch, gear box and diff before you up the boost, it will save you time and money in the long run....:)

Also if in doult fit new bearings everywhere...

Good luck

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Hello and welcome.

The search is great. There's also an article on Turbo phil's site on a 20 hour 998 turbo conversion. Probably very relevant to you:

A rear quarter and an inner arch should see that repaired good as new. A couple of weekends work...

Have a look through the 998 section on here. You might find a T3 a bit on the big side.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I think i will use a T2... although having just bought that one im not sure... i have been speaking to Wil Hamer and he has given me some great advice...

i think new bearings all round will be in order...

so far i have been thinking about this spec:

T2 on metro manifold
RS intercooler
2 core rad
12G 295 (got)
metro turbo dizzy or weld mine...
regrind the crank
lightened/balanced fly
possibly lighten/balance the conrods
x pin diff
and i dont know if i should 1098 or i have a 998 with +20 powermax pistons...

thing about the shell is i think the subframe/radius arm have been affected, it was very hairy driving him after the accident... felt odd round the corners..

The standard con-rods will be fine. Use the money to get a Megajolt ignition.

Find a decent cam, something like an Mg Metro one would be just fine.

Fix the handling first else the torque will put you in the ditch.

You have probably damaged the radius arm on that side or the pin holding it. Jack and support the car and have a wiggle, if it feels loose then there's your problem.

The next step is to get your tape measure and measure the subframe, front to back, side to side and accross the diagonals. If the frame is bent then it will be obvious from these measurements. While you're there make sure you haven't snaped any of the subframe mounting bolts.

The only other thing that could be wrong is a bent/damaged heal board, but from the outward appearance of the damage I doubt that very much unless it's fairly rotten and needs fixing anyway.

Often the bit that bends first is the metal braket between the outer end of the radius arm and the subframe - held on with only four bolts and the large nut on the radius arm pin itself - worth checking first ???
