Well the title says it all.

Im just lookking at my options, I was going to try an install with an RS escort intercooler, but after seeing some pictures i belive the cossie style cooler may be easier to install.

So id like to know what differences between the two types of cossie cooler and how they compare to the escort one please guys!

Cheers Dan

Basically the 4wd one has one more row so is less restrictive - (15% ish more flow) but will set you back at least twice as much as a 2wd one...

Well, maybe for a cosworth, but for an engine that at it's VERY best makes less power (and lets assume airflow is related to power) than a stock 2wd cosworth, is it really neccesary to search out a 4wd one?

Yeah, from when my dad used to mess with cossies I thought that the 4x4 intercooler is a massive thing about the size of a family saloon car radiator?
I would have thought a 2wd one would be a tight squeeze even with a clubby front?

a 2wd drive one is a perfect fit behind a clubby grille, it almost looks like it should be OE for a clubby turbo if they'd have done one....lol

Has anyone ever tried the Escort Cosworth intercooler? It looks as there's some fancy stuff on the end of it :)

I believe it is some sort of small chargecooler, fitted to the standard road cars to get round the homologation regs to allow the rally cars to use chargecoolers.

I seem to remember that it makes f*ck all difference as it isn't big enough to have any effect, it really was put there as a token effort by Ford as a blag to get round homologation.

I love my 2wd one, and im not sure how you'd fit the full 4wd one into a round-nose mini without cutting.

JF fitted a 4x4 one and i have one too. mine will go in the front i reckon. not for avon though it will be just outside but with some mods to the end caps it should be easy. thats with a front mounted rad too although on a flip front.

i've got a escort cossie intercooler with chargecooler. i've not fitted it as it is quite big! looking at it, it is possible to fit it behind the front of a round nose but the mods to the body would be considerable. it would require the drivers inner wing cutting out and the drivers side might just fit behind the headlight bowl, the other side would then go between the side rad and top hose (just)

i also have coolers for, Mazda 323, saab 900 and R5 turbo

if you retain the side rad i would not remove the inner wings. if you do the air will come out the rad and back round into the rad again thus not cooling it and the engine will over heat rapidly.

this is not a problem on front mounted rads as the cold air is sucked from the front of the car.

the 2wd cooler will fit above the slam panel with out too much messing about.

i have one of those escort things, except mines lost the junk on the end. The main body is the same size as a 4wd one (if not a bit more compact) and cna be picked up for a lot less than the 'traditional' 4wd sierra one, i think mine was £25 delivered.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

turbo shed, what about minis with side mount rads with flip fronts?
im sure a few people on hear take the inner wings out dont they for room etc?
would i need to cut the inner wings out to fit the cossi 2wd intercooler would you think or will it be ok sitting just behind the grille?
has anyone got any measurements of one by any chance?

cheers
