Hello chaps

My car has been away at GSMotorsport for a while now, and Phil has made some excellent progress, but we've reached a point where he can go no further. For both time and knowldge-of-mini reasons, he doesn't feel confident to attempt this.

The whole corner of the shell seems to be rotten. It failed the MTO on it a few moths ago, and they didnt spot how bad it was. After a good poke and what not, Phil discovered that it was full of filler, and, horribly rotten. It's the bit behind the front wheel arch, including the bottom of the A-panel, and around that area. The pics will help to see.

So, firstly, is the shell fixable?

and second, is there anyone here would thinks they would be up for the task? I am happy to pay, but would rather I was paying a decent person on here, than some shite bodyshop.

(I'm not fussed about the way it looks, just want it MOTable. I'll be getting the car re-painted in the next 12-24 months anyway.)

Pics:

Cheers. :/

Definitely fix able, I have come across a hell of a lot worse.

I would have thought that there are loads of TM members that could sort it, unfortunately I barely have time to eat sleep & shit at the moment so working on cars is a no go.

It is fixable, and my only advice is to make sure you use genuine panels for the A post and A post stiffner, all others seem to be a different shape completely. Infact you can buy a complete inner wing/ flitch pannel, with A post stiffner, and A panel as one, you then only need the A post closing panel and doorstep/ A post panel. How bad is the scuttle?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I've done the outer A post on my mini, it's not difficult. Then it's just a case of the inner bit and an A panel. Probably a days work, again time and distance are the only things stopping me helping.

Here's the main panel you need, personally I would just cut a section out and but weld it in.

Then it's just a genuine sill step (they have the A post) and an A panel.

That's similar to a problem we found with sturgeo's Flame:

You'll need to cut off the A panel, weld in a couple of new plates and fit a new A panel.

Really should only take a few hours. Just need a Mig welder, angle grinder, clamps and hammers.

Anyone near Alex have a Mig with a 13A plug?

Yep...very fixable. New 'A' panel the rest you could make yourself with abit of tin. *wink*

Edit; You can problably save the panel to be honest. Cut out the rest of the filler/rot...I may be able to help. Not a promise mind! *happy*

Cool. Thanks for the advice and what-not guys. If any of you do feel like helping, I'll pay for time and parts, as said above.

I dont have the car back yet, mind. It's currently near Avon, I tink..

I agree that this is repairable and not a big job if you know what you are doing but having done a job like this I will say be prepared to cut out a lot more of the car than you considered, a lot more!

As others have already said it is likely that more has gone. It looks same as mine was and required scuttle repair and under scuttle along with half inner arch and hinge panel etc. I used Hadrian panels but they are slightly different shape etc.

I work in Alton at present during day so could pop by and offer some guidance etc although my welder is too big to sling in back of car.

If it was complete new panels I have spot welder here that could throw in car but for repairs you need to seam weld it.

Once again I clutter up a thread but offer nothing of value*happy*
