Aright Guys,

Could any one tell me where the voltage stabiliser is located on the 84 on 3 clock binical type cars ?

I think its the ballested type loom and has the big pink dip beam relay.

I know on the old 3 clock type it was on the back of the clocks inbeteen the speedo and gauge dial at the bottom, I've had a look there and can't seem to find it?

Is it inside the housing or a seperate unit some where ?

Cheers

If that is the Japanese manufactured gauges, they don't run a stabaliser.

Is the voltage stabiliser on later injection cars the thing on the cross member on the passenger side of the car with the round plug?

If so how/where should it be wired in? Been putting a carb loom into an SPi car and it doesn't have them on the clocks.

Thats the dim dip balast resistor for the lighting. If your carb loom has the large pink/ orange lucas relay the loom also has dim dip lighting.

New loom doesn't have the pink lighting relay, so I'm guessing that is now redundant?

Will we get away with no voltage stabiliser on the clocks? Am I right in thinking it just levels out the signal to the fuel/temp gauges?

The 'regulator' is within the gauges, just wire it up and away you go

Spot on. Thanks. The carb loom to injection car has taken a little thinking through, but that means I don't have one more job to do. perfec.

Just trying to work out my loom. Looking at using the big pink dim/dip relay and was wondering what the function if the ballast resistor was and if I actually need one???

The ballast resistor basically drops the voltage down, this is what gives you the "dim" dipped beam when sidelights are on with ignition on.

Thanks Tom. Looking at the wiring diagram for the '76 clubmans I don't have anything like that, so I can just wire it with the big pink relay and not worry about that as it's not required?

Look at the later drawings for the dim dip circuit, It was introduced some time in the late 80's and all minis from that point on had it

I'm just running through the haines book of lies this afternoon. Think I'm going to put one in anyway.

My loom will end up a mix and match of the clubman, late carb and MPi. All getting clearer though. Nice and easy to draw up, PITA to wire no doubt...

Has anybody got a diagram of the connections on the pink dim dip relay? It's just a box with wires in the haines book

That said, it's probably easier just to stick 2 standard relays in place of the dim/dip relay and resistor and not bother with the dimming lights....
