Alright chaps,

I finally got around to doing some bits and bobs on the car :)

So thought I would post a few picks as an update

First off I managed to after much hassle to get the car actually registered and legal to drive here, so I have fitted my plates...

I didn't want to drill more holes or pull off the uk plate so lucky I found a plate bracket which I mounted under the boot hinge :)

I think it looks ok ?

I have also fitted spa mirrors and a new roof decal

And after having had the edis and crank pulley and sensor bracket for 3 years finally bought a V4 Mega jolt

It runs sooo nice now I wish I had done this years ago...the fuel gauge poking out of the dash is temporary while I sort the fueling as I had to fit a new pump.

Next I pulled the engine and fitted new head gasket, fixed a few oil leaks and fitted a quaife with new Swifty bearings and a 2.9 FD.

Before refitting the turbo I wrapped the manifold

and fitted the pulley and bracket.

I'm fairly pleased with the car at the moment but it is a little hot at the moment here to drive for too long, its not the engine over heating its the driver lol.

Next I plan to fit a 16 row oil cooler and second 9" tripac to help keep things cool, and need to cut some holes in the front of the car.

Comments welcome

Cheers

Thanks guys,

I've seen a couple of classic minis in Houston, but no clubbys yet.

Although there was a guy in Austin selling a pick up, but I think its gone now, now that would be rare!

Thanks Steve,

The coil pack, edis and sensor I got off you work fine, its great when thing just work! Obviously Toms pulley and bracket are spot on and made the install easy.

I had the head off you did recently, everything looks fine except a little coked up, but thats turbos for you, also got oxygen sensor boss welded in to down pipe, so need to get a lambda kit next.

I timed in my cam properly and I found the bannanas that seemed to be missing and the boost went up a psi without adjusting the actuator,
its going really well at the moment and pulls the 2.9 upto 60 mph in second although I don't like to rev it over 6k that often, and still pulls really well in top. mo need to drop to 3rd to over take...

Its amazing the reaction I get from other drives here on the road,

Alot of people look and smile and give me the thumbs up!

I also get people in the street and at the pump who just want to talk about it. :)

Went I took it for the police inspection, they both took turns to sit in it and take photos...

One guy said it would make a good golf cart, but I said he probably wouldn't get his clubs in the boot !! lol.

Other folk just cant believe how small it is.

Hows the beast running ?

Cheers

Alright chaps,

Its been a while since I took the mini out due to the hot weather here, and a fueling issue....the car was starving while flat out in top after a while.

I fitted a new bosch fuel pump and flushed the tank and system and fitted a hi flow pre filter and the beast is back with avengence !!

The air was nice and cool last night and I got up to 6000 rpm in 4th before I chickened out for fear of a ticket. Which ain't bad for 11 psi.

I'm running a 2.95 FD with standard drops on 13"'s so by my calcs that around 20mph per 1000rpm. and the new mirrors didn't fold in. but I did have to push the texas plate back down when I stopped lol and the new roof decal stayed on...

The quaife feels nice and hooks up real well although it is still a little torque steery, but this could be the tracking,

What tracking settings are you guys using ?

Heres a couple more of pics to follow :) Comments welcome

cheers brocky

Thanks guys

Seems to pull better at the top end since doing the MJ and timming the cam in properly, infact found another pound of boost without adjusting the actuator, think the cam was way out...

Admittedly it did take a little while to go between 5500 and 6000, but it felt like it would have kept going,

Will have to get it on the rollers :)

Alright Guys

Time for a little update,

Rebuild the motor at christmas, fairly decent spec.

Total seal rings
ARP Rod bolts
11 stud
MED HC/HF Oil pump
Z4 Under piston cooling jets

Block cooling mods - ported rear entry, blocked first 3 front ports to head passage.
Benross High boost head and matched manifolds and elbow, 2" d pipe.
Rebuilt box w Clubman gear set
Quaife diff etc
Edis/mj set up
Lambda gauge fitted
Fabbed jet holder etc.
Nic stainless plenum
TomFenton trigger pulley and sensor bracket
Black washers under main bolts (relieved gearbox housing)
Using 6281 crank, turbo rods and super low milage 1275 stock turbo pistons,
Chilled cam followers and NA MG cam.

Just running in at the moment, getting hot here so had to open up the front end a little,

also put extra holes at back of bonnet to let the hot air out !

looks pretty small next to Tahoe

Run in is going well, feels really crisp and feels like it will go.

Thinking me and the other Katy club members will have a shoot out in Autumn when they get on the road. Pete's vtec and Paul Vaux 16v is should be done by then.

Thanks guys, real glad I have full cage just in case....

Also, who says minis arent pratical,

I managed to fit a 30 liter beer cooler in my boot, the carry handle fitted snugly under the lock panel and the wheels just rolled down the boot lid and it sat there, i only put the bungees there just in case...
Perfect fit !

Have also refined the dash and added lambda, oil pressure and matching boost gauges.

Had to add new fuse box too... need to tidy up the wiring though...

Have added covers to the vent holes, old alloy tax disc holders, don't need them now but match the alloy furnature?? (note for the honda boyz you can buy these with "Type R" and the like embrazzened on them, lots of different colours to!). I used 25mm hex head counter sunk M3 bolts tapped through the old front plates (as back plates) on the other side of the holes, may put starter button on the drives side one.

Also got KAD quick shift, with reverse lift lever, which is nice...

Oh and forgot to mention using techniclutch 30% uprated cover with ms lightened verto fw, with machined down lugs to further increase clamping, this has proved good upto 15 psi so far on previous 1310 motor.

Hoping to push 150 nanas on this build, must admit the total seal rings live up to their billing. Oil is still golden after 400 miles, even turbo lag seems reduced, due to increased volumetric efficiency.

Engine bay needs work, new exp tank, will be talking to fastcarl about that when I order my rear suspension titanium goodies *smiley*

Also going to add second coolant temp sensor to be able to offset ignition curve via programmable input to jolt if gets too hot and kick in second tripac fan using programable output.

Comments welcome.

Cheers

Evening/Morning Chaps,

Well finally got all the hard work done in terms of fit up, pre drilling holes and wire brushing and preping for colour matched body colour paint etc....for fitment of the force racing Titanium rear beam...:) Package arrived here in the US quicker than any other order I have made from the UK lol.

Mr Austin you have excelled yourself again *smiley* the beam came with more enhancements than advertised and complete with all the nice fasteners....

Basically replaced 14 kilo subby with 3.5 kgs, which now also includes integral HB quadrants, nice touch Carl, nice surprise...

Also will be replacing spax gas shocks and hilos with alloy protech coil overs, pictures to follow, but basically alloy coilover with springs weigh in at 2/3 of previous set up, now plus minifins, I will be dropping pratically 40 lbs off the back end....*tongue*

More pics to follow, comments welcome,

Cheers
