My old lathe, I think it was made before the old king died, there is some play in the chuck & tool post so it is no good for precision machining, however it if pretty good for making drop links, engine steadies, spacers and a million and one other round parts as long as you can accommodate a little flex in your tolerances.

Last year I fitted a new Clarke motor to replace the old knacker one & I fitter a clarke push button starter thingy at the same time.

It has three speeds: the wrong speed, a totally inappropriate speed, and you've got to be joking speed but these can be changed by altering the size of the pulley on the motor and these are readily available from Machine Mart. There is also a wood box full of random gears & lathe like parts that came with it, but I've not quite figured them out.

It also comes with a selection of lathe tools to get you started but they ideally need replacing. I've also got some off cuts of round stock that I'll chuck in to get you started.

The best bit is that there are two Jacobs chucks, a revolving steady and a die holder.

Probably a really daft question, but I'll ask it anyway.... Do you reckon it will go in the back of a metro van and could you bring it to Avon? I'm assuming it doesn't come with the bench.

You lot are a bloody bad influence!

The bench is included.

If I unbolt the motor the whole thing measures 4ft tall by 3ft wide by 16"

I reckon that it would fit in the back of your metty van as I've had the lathe & engine hoist in the back of the Volvo at the same time, if you get really stuck you could always cut the legs off with a hacksaw & re-weld them!

I'd need to measure up (Van is at John's house at the moment), but I'm certainly interested. I take it would be OK to remove it from that bench and attach it to my work bench?

Would you bring it to Avon? I'd happily buy you a pint for your troubles lol

If you where to unbolt it from it's current bench you'll need to sort out some way of mounting the pulley & motor but it wouldn't be to difficult, if it was me I'd just chop the top off the old blue bench & use that. Hopefully this photo should explain what I mean

Also to help give an idea of size I took a picture of the lathe along side Mr Banana:

Bringing it to Avon should be a problem.
