hi

iv decided to build my 1380 lump and get my white mini back on the road while i build my turbo.

i just want to drive a mini again badly!!!

anyway i have a 1380 which i think the head gaskit has gone, not yet inspected it.

the spec is.....

1380cc
11.2/1cr
sw5 cam
1.5 roller tip rockers
hiff 44
37mm inlets
ported head
3.44 fd
lightend flywheel and back plate

this engine was not build by me so iv just gone by the list he gave me.

it will be used as a weekend car.
would i benifit from a differnt cam?

thanks
josh

depends on what you want from the car. If you like low end grunt and an engine that stops delivering at 6-6.5k it is a good choice. if you want something a bit more race with more peaky higher power I would get something a bit more "wild"

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

you will find the sw5 is a cracking cam, i would leave that in and see how you like it ......?

time the cam in at 107 that will allow 1 deg for stretch

the 286 in my book is a little OTT for the road best suited to track racing

you will enjoy the performance and tractability of the sw5

ok i just thought that the sw5 is a bit wasted with the high cr and the fact it revs up to 7000rpm!

thanks

Because it can run up to 7K doesn't mean it needs to.

Never used a SW5 but the way I see it, big capacity and high CR should make up for the lack of drivability of a bigger cam at low revs.

As Steeve wrote, I would use it before deciding to change it ot not ...

Sorry to be a bit of a na sayer but IMO the SW5 has no place in a big bore motor it is perfect for hot small bore motors, but it lacks Lift and duration for a big motor IMHO. the Kent 266 is the best big bore cam for street use it gives a fantastic power curve and a mind blowing amount of torque My last 1480 had this cam with a set of twin 1.5 SU and a good head and made well over 90 ft/lb torque at 3000rpm an animal of an engine I loved it and wish I never changed it for the 286 although a great cam for fast road track it just never had the feal of the 266.
