Gents,

While I am driving at a constant speed and then I just touch the throttle to accelerate a little bit (so the vac gauge goes from say minus 20 psi to minus 10 psi, it starts pinking its arse off, just until the boost transition point at which point it disapears.

In others if you boot it theres no issue...but traveling on the high way in traffic is a night mare.

This occurs from around 2.5 k, and seems to occur due to the reduction in vacuum approching the transition point at above 2.5k

Has anyone had this ?

I am using a 10 PSI needle and spring and metro turbo fueling set up with fabbed holder and all the usual blanked off.

I am currently backing off the advance on the jolt around this area on the map but not sure if this is the solution

Thoughts appriciated

Cheers

Brocky

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Wide band is in progress, I have welded the boss into the down pipe, but need to fit sensor and gauge etc.

AFR looked good on the last RR session I did, but that was a straight power run so wouldn't have show this condition. *frown*

Are you thinking it could be leaning out?

FPR is set to 3.5 PSI. and has new bosch pump just fitted.

Also I think this only started when I switched to US fuel which is suppose to be more det tolerant but not as calorific.

It sounds similar to the Van. Leaning out on transition.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I will re check the oil level just to be sure, I did wonder if the spring might be too weak also.

Are thinking thinner oil might help ?

Do you have the part throttle lean off pipe blocked? If not I recommend doing it.

Thats what I was thinking, but fueling might be the root cause...

What level of advance are people using in this region say at 2.5k ?

I think I've got around 28 at 0 PSI, but 31 at -10PSI is that too much ?

The det seems to start at the -10 PSI point and go away just before transition.

itll be a "lean tip in" get it on throttle transients all the time, solution is to increase acceleration enrichment, on an SU, i would be playing with the spring (heavier) or heavier dashpot oil, OR thinning down the needle so the part jsut forther down of your cruise location is slightly richer, youll need some way to gauge where the needle sits at cruise to do this accurately though :)

So how much timing do you actually have at these points ?

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Hey Stevie,

I have been playing with the map and I have retarded the timming at the transition point to:

27 at 2 - 2.5 rpm
28 at 2.5 - 3.0 rpm
29 at 3.0 - 3.5 rpm etc

The pinking has stopped.

Are these figures typical or am I over compensating on backing of the timming to fix another issue say lean out ?

The trigger wheel and bracket should be spot on in terms of offset as they were from Tom F.

Hey evo

Just noticed your other post,

Like you say I need to pull my finger out and get the wide band fitted, I have the boss welded in already from the last strip down so just need to order the kit *smiley*

I have richened up the mixture a little too just to be on the safe side.

Cheers

Must have been a hell of a lot to cause pinking.
