hey guys iv been toying with the idea of turbo charging my mini for a while now, but was put off the idea earlier as i was told the cylinder head i have isnt ideal and that it is lekely the head will crack. As the valve sizes are too big. However i have decided im going to go ahead with it and if i need too will have to buy a new head.

I am wanting to build a fast mini that will run 13s 1/4 miles so i can have some fun around my area with the ferrari, porsche drivers etc.

I was wondering if you could supply me with some engine spec ideas that would make my mini capeable of achieving this. It will be striped aswell.

I was thinking

* 1330 block
* MED light weight stage 2 rotating assembly
* MED light weight flywheel and back plate
* MED s/c drops
* MED s/c gears
* mirage turbo kit
* t2 turbo

im not sure what final drive to go for was thinking a 3.44
what compression i would need to use thinking about 8.5:1
will i need an intercooler
and also what cam to use was thinking an sw5

any help would be great guys and opinions as to alterations to the specthat you would make or simply just the spec you would go for.

Thanks in advance

liam

Have a look at this.

Also a 13 second mini is not easy to accomplish. You need more than just bhp/torque. You need to look into traction, weight reduction etc etc.

EDIT: Correct thread linked

T2 is old hat these days, might be worth looking at a more modern turbo

Giving a possible engine spec doesn't mean anyone can quote what figures you'll see. How about building and running it, then go from there?

I didnt want to build it to then have to change it all again. As its more than likely going to be an expensive build. I was mainly thinking about supercharging the engine b4 so wanted to ask soome more turbo related questions. I already have the plans set to lighten the car etc. Just need a decent engine spec. But theere are so many alternatives i just wanted to see what people thought and get some answers on things im not to sure about.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

liam, i would use the phase 2 cam,
and consider the sabb gt2052, on the mirage, go for the +20 bore 1293 cc then you will have a few more overboars to play with,

a well gasflowed head is a must for maximum power, will cotribute and enhance all the other hard core engine parts.........

give me a shout if you, need anything!

thanks for that benross. Just what i was after. Someone to point me in the right direction. With regards to the cam can you buy it in kit form like you can with the sw5? I dont suppose you have and ideas as to the other questions iv got? Eg the final drive choice etc? Would i also need to use an intercooler?

intercooler is NOT the icing on the cake ITS MORE! CAKE. *Yes*

the final drive, choice is yours depending on the wheel size you going to run.. say if you are on 13s...... for a street warrior i would use a 3.2 fd with a Straigh cut clubman gearbox set up.

john iam always up to something *wink* *Yes*

Il be running 12s. So i think il go for a 3.44 then? Is that right? Or would i need a lower f/d? Is there much fabrication to connect the gt2052 to the mirage manifold? Where do you guys buy your turbos from? Sorry for all the questions

iv got 12's with a 3.44 N/A and for easier cruising speeds maybe use a 3.2 or 3.1 and well stop you from spinning the wheels. This may help with your diff choice:

thank you for all your help. you have helped alot. thin i am defo going to go turbo now. just got to decide on the cam as i thin im going to go for a turbo from mirage aswell as the manifold kit. will possibly go for the phase 2 cam as you have suggested. the phase 3 looks good tho. but i bet its not really that practical for a road going car.

phase 3 is supposed to be crap in anything but a balls out racer.

The Scamp has a phase 3 and I wouldn't consider that a balls out racer, however it's very lumpy and takes a little while to kick in.

I also have one for Vader.

CR depends on how much boost you want to run.

Well i was aiming for about 200bhp. Think that should just about be enough for the 1/4 mile times im after i think. So was thinking id need to run about 12-15psi? Also are dumpvalves worth investing in?
