Starting a new build, already have a plenum (plenumiummumiomum for some) with dump valve takeoff, and im buying a block at bingley.
I think im going down the t2 route or similar, dont want to cut into the bulkhead either if i can help it.
Ideally, i want boost from about 2k rpm up to say 5k, as i dont go past that really. Boost pressure im guessing about 15psi? Im going for omega pistons as i can get them a little cheaper, not sure how much, but i can find out.

This build will cost me what it costs me to have it done as i want it, and properly first time. So im not in any rush.
Am i right in thinking a 266 or MG metro N/A cam would be suitable?
Any help with choosing the right bits for my build would be very much appreciated, along with what works well, and what works not-so-well.

Also have a tax rebate coming in soon, so ill have a few hundred quid spare to put into it, i need to buy something as a source of motivation *tongue*

A well built T2 charged lump with an MG cam and 15psi will be plenty quick enough.

Our van made 153nana's at about 13psi and it's reasonably quick.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Me and John have found that our van drives really well with about 10 psi of boost, gets a bit mad after that. We wound it up to 18psi once, but it wasn't very road friendly. We're running a t3 with an MG metro cam.

Might be worth looking at GT1752 turbos, more modern that a T2 and seem to deliver the goods. Will also fit down the back with no bulkhead mod's.

I think Sprocket has a good n/a MG metro cam for sale.

I think the chap at mirage has started to make manifolds for the gt17. I believe they can be made to fit the t2 flanged mirage with a bit of fetling.

May be of interest to you:

Edit: My mistake, automatically saw a brand new g17 on ebay and thought "copy" :$

You say the GT1752 will fit with no bulkhead mods, is that only on a mirage manifold?

With a standard mirage manifold the GT17 will hit the block. You need a specific GT17 manifold really.

Also with a T2 15psi is pushing it. Anything after 12psi it just generates too much heat. However, if you want boost from 2k then the T2 is a better bet, imo. If the motor only revs to 5k the GT17 will be wasted. Mind you boost and power is addictive so think carefully about what you want before you build.

Again with the rpm range you quote the MG cam will be better than the 266.

I think you should take John,s comment about the van going reasonably well witha big pinch of salt cos its bloody quick ! 14.3 standing quarter is quick by any standards.

Just been summing up my build today, heres a rough spec, may change, If theres anything crucial ive missed, please let me know :)

Standard balanced and smoothed conrods, ARP bolts.
Omega forged pistons, unsure of what i need at the moment.
Head - 36mm inlet 30mm exhaust valves, unsure of chamber size. ARP studs, drilled to accept 11 studs.
Force racing centre main strap.
1293cc
Block drilled and tapped to accept two more studs.
Standard weight crankshaft, balanced.
8.4/8.5:1 compression ratio i think seems suitable for the boost i can run from the t2?
Mg metro cam.
Vernier duplex timing chain, possibly light alloy if i feel the need.
Lightened and balanced steel flywheel.
Grey clutch diaphram.
Lightened steel pressure plate.
Possibly Force Ti clutch arm.
Full s/c box with s/c drop gears, Quaife ATB fitted, although im not sure if this is overkill or not, Minispares 4 pin if not, i want it to last me.
Small intercooler to fit behind clubby grille.
T2 turbo on mirage manifolds.
Small oil cooler.
Large impellor water pump.
Vent to atmousphere dump valve on metro plenum.
Megajolt setup.
Unsure of spark plugs.
Ally 2 core radiator.
Metro inlet i think, havent seen any alternatives.
98RON Unleaded.

Completely new to turbocharging, although ive done a fair bit of reading and decided on a spec.
Then engine takes as long as it wants for me to gather all the parts, mostly me saving money for them lol.
