Identifying A+ Factory Cams

Gentlemen,

I have what I believe to be a N/A MG Metro cam which I intend to use in my A+ Turbo engine.

1). It has a slot drive for the oil pump, making it an A+ cam.

2). The are no numbers etc. so I think I am going to have to measure the profiles to be 100% certain. Don't want to fit the wrong one !

I intend to set the cam up between to centres on a lathe, and use a DTI and a timing disc to survey the profiles.

I think if I accurately measure the durations against angle for each respective exhaust and inlet cam, and get a match of 268 degrees exhaust and 252 degrees inlet, this should allow positive identification.

Long winded I know....

Does anyone know of a quicker way of IDing ? bearing in mind its just as easy to put in a lathe in the workshop at work for me then to carry this out in a block?

MG metro cam has a groove somet like 1/4" wide machined between two of the lobes. Don't know which lobes. But it's definately there and identifyable. If there is no machined groove, it's a stock 998 or 1275 cam.

Living in Scotand 200 mile north of the boarder...its blizzarding at the mo.

Hope to get my extra large custom box welded into the bulkhead tommorrow at work. Weve got a massive works shop and machine shop. Just had mi head milled out like the avonbar heads and counter board to accept the MG N/A inlet valve, have ported it out, and just need to tidy things up with the pencil grinder. Droppped the valve seats 2mm and took the roof out of the chamber also, so will need some 2mm spacers for the springs and rocker pedistalls. Should be good for 28cc plus. Hope it doesnt burst on the pressure test rig !!
