It's Done! just been out for my first drive. All signs are good, running 6psi with conservative ignition map. Just can't help myself with the right foot though. Am going to go out for a motorway run once I've checked everything over. Really please with drivability and power, even at low boost. The phase 2 cam seems very good. Turbo is a little laggy, but builds boost from 2.5k and all in at 3k, I can only compare it to the T3, and it's 10 times better. I've only held boost for a couple of secs and not reved past 3.5-4k. AFR's look a little rich at 11-1 on boost, but cruise and idle seem good.

Well ive done about 250 miles now, slowly building up the boost and revs. Currently running at 10psi, but done a couple of pulls at 16. Turbo is proving to be a little bit too big for road use, it builds boost from 2.5k, but doesn't reach 16psi until about 4.2k (it depends on gear of course). I'm now considering installing a Gt1752 after the TM rolling road day, the other option is to install my newly rebuild standard r5 spec turbo, but boost will be limited to 14psi looking at the compressor map. I could then install the gt17, new hi flow manifolds and alloy 7 port through the winter.

Here a picture of my early 7 port ideas, plans include Webcon modified alloy head, AT throttle bodies, custom alloy plenum, charge cooler, custom manifolds to bring turbo higher and improve pulsing, dta management etc

Nice chargecooler lol.

Not sure if that plenum will take much boost.

Looks very nice, are you that board of the 5port allready?

rick

PS i think the genaral understanding is a air to air is better if poss rather than the chargecooler, plus although you could have shorter pipework on the chargecooler ,you need a water pump, rad, header tank and pipwork wich can work out messy.

This picture was taken a while ago, I fancied a charge cooler due to the lack of space up front. Im planning on mounting a custom radiator and pump at the back between subframe. My IC would defiantly not fit, and I don't want it on show. Plus its something different.

Though I'd share my power graph from todays rolling road visit. Blue is 7psi, Brown @ 12psi and Yellow is 14psi showing 149.5bhp @ the wheels and 170bhp @ flywheel. We only went upto 6k, as engine as only covered 400 miles and power seemed to level by then anyway. The curves look similar to n/a power runs due to the slow spooling oversize choice of turbo, that builds boost far to slowly for my liking.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

After a long break, working on my Turbo,d 7 Port and this mini just gathering dust I decided to either sell up and buy a Catherham or develop this mini for some serious trackday fun.

I've concluded with a bit of help and inspiration from IMM that I'm going to stick with the mini, but focused my efforts of reducing the weight of the car and going back to a Race Naturally aspirated A series.

My initial aim was to get the car to below 500kg, I believe this is possible but I want to keep the car as safe and balanced as possible. Ie full rollcage, anti roll bars etc.

So the realistic aim is to get to 510kg by spring ready for a few track days, with further weight reduction in 2016, to get to that magic sub 500kg. Power wise, I, hoping for 135bhp from a 1293cc. So about 265bhp per tonne.

Now the car currently weights 599kg, with 2 seats. Turbo engine, heavy RTS etc, however it did previously tipped the scales at 559kg with the 1380 Race engine with only 1 seat.

So I'm looking to save another 50-60kg.

I'm starting with the rear end. I'm replacing the lightened subframe setup with a KAD 2nd gen. Alloy rear beam, Pro-tech coil-overs, KAD disc and SC Arms.

This should save about 14.5kg, including extra weight for turrets and strut brace.

Will be interested to see how you progress, I am part way through my ally rear subframe replacement box section thingy but am revising the mountings as I wasn't happy with the layout it had as std.

Did you get a weight for the SC arms complete with stub axle / pins?

I'll be interested to see the 'beam' as KAD don't seem to ever list them and I don't think I have seen one, any idea on the weight of the KAD beam with all brackets / fixings, sorry for all the questions.

Cheers

Heres a sneaky pics of what my plans are. 1293cc, 12-1CR, Custom Swiftune 7 Port 300degree race cam, 1.5 LD rockers. Steel rods, omegas etc. all based around my prevous block, crank and gearbox with a 3.9 Final drive and new Timkin roller SC drops.

I'm just waiting for some custom valve tops to allow 0.500thou lift and correct valve spring height.
