OK - going to be working on this shortly and am putting a bit of thought to the mounts. I'm hoping to use an Audi TT cooler sited over the starter motor area.

Something that I recall reading last year related to mounting the cooler off the engine or body but I can't recall which way round was recommended. I suppose the thought of it mounted to the engine would be it moves with it, however by mounting it to ther body, it won't be (mounts) subjected to the vibration of the engine in the same way but the pipes will - the concern here being the unit has plastic tanks and mounting lugs.

I was following this thread but the photos are now missing

what are your thoughts??

cheers

Rob

All mine are mounted to the body, there is enough flex in the silicon joins to allow for engine movement.

On the TT2 I have the bottom attached to the subframe and the top to the engine, this means as the engine moves the IC does a bit too. I did this as I didn't want to stress the carbon plenum too much. There are no such worries with a HIF and big metal plenum.

Two choices really, either solid mount it to the engine or mount it to the body with some form of flexible mountings.

haha, flexible mountings on the Sprint are zip-ties.

Look at most OEM installations, mounted just like radiators, the rubber hoses allow for engine movement.

yes mine is solid mounted to body as well, and I've left some joins in silicon bends for the engine movement.
