Would you believe something like this

Is a fuel pump *Yes*

For this *surprised*

http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/car/rocket_pr..._march_2011.cfm (check out the blokes tash *hehe!* )

In Blue Steel, the pump was driven by a 50,000rpm turbine powered by HTP decomposers. This was not considered suitable for BLOODHOUND, so it was decided the pump would be driven by a piston engine. The engine selected is a Cosworth CA 2010 Formula 1 motor, weighing 95kgs and producing around 800bhp. Aside from driving the pump, it also serves as the auxiliary power unit supporting the car’s electrical and hydraulic systems.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Impressive Tash! And engineering, will be following closely. I recall something about the wheels being challenging to design, as they had to endure stresses of 50,000 g at top wack...! *surprised*

Yep. They were at Bristol UWE giving a very good evening presentation on the engineering aspects followed by a very nice dinner, gratis on them ! If I recall Rob H was there as well tucking in !!

Keeping a close eye on it as I fancy one of those EJ200 gas turbines in the back of my van !

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

It's a brilliant project and exciting. I work at Cosworth and its one of the current F1 engines that is going to be used to run their fuel pump. Think that i need to try and get involved it this project. They came into work a few weeks ago and gave a talk to us all. It is some feat that they are trying 1000mph.... rather them than me!

Hope they do it though.

Good to see you're all behind the bloodhound project. I've been involved in a small way for the past year, putting British engineering back where it used to be, in the front!
