First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

Last weekend i got my car together again, i even fitted an electric fan to it and all my over heating problems were sorted!!

however a small misfire at 5psi developed!!
"cursed thing" i thought to myself, and set about searching for an airleak this weekend but none could be found. As it was happening at 5psi i wondered whether the inlet manifold was not pulling flat, so changed the inlet/exhaust gasket again (im getting good at that) went up the road and fine, but coming back down it was crap again.

hmmmm so more fettling was needed lots more air leak searching was done but nothing could be found, i rechecked the timing and that was fine but the misfire still persisted, so much so that i got so annoyed with it and found that it only appears when the car was warm and if you were really mean you could drive through it with lots of popping sounds.

loads more fiddling last night and replacing this that and everything else resulted in the spark plugs being the problem

then a pootle off around down and a stop for petrol resulted in me getting stopped by the police. But fortunately he was a mini fan in his youth and wanted a look at the car

rockin and ready to run in

What plugs and gap were you running for future ref.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

I have always favored NGK's myself, but don't seem to be any clear cut "best" or "better" so far

6's aren't really right, even with 4/5psi. 7's are definately the correct spec.

Regarding plugs - you want gooduns with a 'running in' or near stock engine, go to Lookers/unipart/express factors/rover and get some genuine OE spark plugs for the metro turbo.

I'm saying nothing about the brand in question. Bosch or others must do an equivalent plug - is the RS turbo the same plug style? If so, a set of pukka 'motorcraft' (ford OE) plugs for the Escort RST will be cheap and do the job...

I just have had one Champion fail on me. Don't know why, it's just dead as a dodo. It was starting the engine on a cold morning mind, so a little too much mixture could have just fouled it badly and cooked it I guess? Don't really know - but it's still not working after a shotblasting session.

I've Never had a problem with a motorcraft plug... I believe you can also buy the C57 or C59 equivalents from motorcraft aswell as 'upgrades' for the Sierra Cosworth...

So how come you don't like NGK?

I had load of problems with champs in my 850 hence I now favour NGK

Must admit, I've never used a 'standard' champion plug. If i'm doing any 'standard' cars, I use Bosch or OE plugs... I've also heard others say similar things to you about 'standard' champion plugs...

Check out this link:

Finally, I take back what i said about the 6's in my previous post having read what Jukka mentions in the above link. As it says under his username......

All I'll say is give it a go - if you can get NGK's cheaply and easilly then fair enough.

I'd be keeping a lead puller (to isolate the bad cylinder), a plug spanner, and a spare plug with me though! LOL!!!
