so! i really want to build from scratch and do it my self..

the main reason im starting this post is ive never build a motor before !
i know a tinny bit but if im gonna do this i will need help!
i think the best way will be to apply the KISS method! Keep It Simple Stupid!
if i do a stock standard rebuild on the 850 for my 1963 (witch im trying to do a factory restore on) to get my head around the method and things to watch out for etc etc.. then do another build after that if i pass fist grade that is haha

what tools will i need? i only have basic tools but obliviously ill need more than that..
im willing to buy tools/gadgets that ill need to do it right

im sure there are books out there ?
is this a good place to do a build log?

Valve spring compressor.
Socket set.
1 1/2" socket.
Flywheel puller.
A big plank of wood and a mate to stand on it (pinion nut in g'box).
Torque wrench.
And a couple of special tools for the gear box. Details of how to make them here:

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=8833

And a haines manual. The metro one covers the gearbox in detail.

Add to that a 1.5/16" socket. Crankshaft pulley bolt and camshaft end nut.

Also fits steering wheel nut.

There's a dial gauge you'll need to end float & timing (i think) a set of digital callipers would really help, feeler gauges, crank oil seal tool, piston ring compressor, valve grinding stick & paste. Plenty of tea!

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper
