Hello guys,

So I bought a metro thermostat housing ages ago and was going to fit it today, however I have noticed that the falnge that the water pipe fits on is much larger on the metro thermostat housing than on the mini's therefore my new shiny silicon pipes wont go on because its far too big.

How do you guys get around this? I want to use the metro thermostat housing because A) It looks so much better and B) I will be using the small pipe (drilled out ofc) to return water from my turbo

Spark plugs!? I have some NGK BPR7ES-11 plugs and would like to know what gap I should have really, I have been doing some trolling on the forum and cant really find a definate answer

Any help would be fab :)

Cheers

Craig

edit: Almost forgot this one, I have to remove the outer raceway from the nose roller bearing that sits on the bottom drop gear (1st motion shaft I believe?) as it is still inside my flywheel housing (if you call it that?) I have a new bearing and obv I want to use the new outer raceway - so how would I go about getting out the old one without damaging the housing as im clumsy/heavy handed.

Cheers again :)

For the sparkies just gently tap the tip and feel with feeler gauges mine are at 0.7mm but ive run them as high as 1.2mm

mine are currently 1.1mm as I bought -11 plugs Ill set them to 0.7mm?? Or should I leave them as is? What will happen if its not right for my engine? Just so I know if they need to be changed.

Can you just get a bigger hose? I was going to just buy the right size diameter pipe in silicone and bend it round, my old man said it would kink???

If you're using a mini rad you will struggle to get a pipe the right shape to fit the metro stat housing...

Are you trying to return the turbo coolant into the 1/4" hose stub in the stat housing? that won't flow well...

If the gaps too big the spark could blow out at higher boost resulting in a misfire. How ever i cant get mine to blow out at 1.2mm (well not to my knowledge) but i looked up a few book values on various oem cars 0.7mm seems to be the norm so i settled at that

As andy says about the stat housing you want to take water from there back into the bottom hose (or other low pressure part)

okay, I was going to drill it out a bit as I was told here:

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=447369

So it would be okay to return it to the bottom of the rad instead? Could I put a T-Piece in before it goes into the rad?

i thought later cars (spi) used that style thermostat housing but with undrilled small stub. There should be a pipe available that goes to a mini side rad.

Ahh thank you very much :) will look into putting the water feed into the bottom of the rad first as that will be easier

You need a hose from a Rover Cooper RSP or Mainstream Cooper.

To get the first motion suport bearing out, first remove the spring clip, and then ensure there are no burrs on the edges of the hole the race sits in. Gently heat the case from the back as quickly as you can, in a wide area around the bearing housing avoid heating the race doing it this way. Not too much, just enough that when you spit on it (not a gob full!!), it sizzles. Gently knock the cover flat as possible onto a piece of plywood on the floor, with the bearing race on the underside. It should drop out easy as pie.

You could try it the way Guessworks suggests which is simmilar, but a bit more brutal and may crack or distort the case. There is no real need to het it that hard. use the temperature indicator suggested above

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
