cheers yeah i am. i cant wait to see how it all goes. I started making the plates for the oil drain i need to find the turbo gaskets but can only really find exhaust outlet but not inlet as this turbo didn't seem to use one.

you can just use firegum, or make gaskets from copper,

I can sort you out a sheet of copper.

Hiya only a small update i been busy helping out Rubicon with some fabrication and tig work on his newest project. I have got a little done though i got my stainless in for the outlet flange. i was trying to grind out for clearence for the wastegate but ended up cutting it through.

also got the bits for the oil drain sorted.



Its tight but im pleased its just about worked out.

Cheers guys i not really got much done been playing with the other mini stuff. Small update though i got another head for doing some work so started stripping it down clean up and check. Its got a few damaged threads and the valve seats seem to be cut really deep into the chamber. But no cracks and a bonus its got hardned exhaust seats so saves a small fortune. Fingers crossed my next update i will have actually got somewhere.

edit Oh and a couple of the brass bungs have sunk so i will get them checked and changed if nessesary when i get it skimmed

i got a few more bits come through. One bits was a trigger wheels ring so i machined down the pulley ready to align and weld it on.


I spend my lunchtimes at work doing bits and pieces so progress can be slow sometimes i have been gradually porting the head. The head was badly machined from the factory it must have been off center when the machined it all the stud holes are off to one side and whilst porting the chambers its noticable how off the valves are to the raw casting so chamber grinding is having to correct this too. Here is where im it i have 80% done the ports and deshrouded all the inlets and done two exhaust valves but i wanted to finish one chamber to check a few things abd take measurment so thought i would post some pics. Oh by the way i leave the guides in to protect the guide bores i will be replacing them.

Im de shrouding the valves and flow the ports. i have been questioning weather to keep the beak or not but at the moment i have increased the radius. My old turbo head had it removed because it can cause a hot spot and promote detonation. Im looking at geting a chamber volume of about 23.5cc which will give me around 9-1 compersion ratio.

j, i think its more likely that it caused a faster flame speed in the chamber due to increased turbulence ,and this then caused the timing to be too advanced ,and that then caused the det ?

just a theory though !

The problem when leaving the guides in is that you cannot drift them properly out without bending them. This destroys the bores more than removing them at first. How does really exposed bores get worn when porting anyway?

cheers for your comments guys. With regards to the guides its not wear im concerned with its damage from miss guides burrs. Also i never had problems removing the guides after this as i push not drift then out from top down so into the chamber. In my understanding you shouldn't push then the other way as carbon build can make them tight and cause bore damage on removal. Each to there own thanks for your comments

I find that the valve seal groove burrs are much worse than any carbon build up.

a rubber seal causing burs? Its common sense to run some emery around them first and as you can get to them really easy this is the way i go. You dont like people doing things any other way than you believe correct do you. I have read various other posts of yours and you seem to not accept any other views. There are many different ways to do things and being able to be versatile can get you out of trouble. I like hearing how others do things and how they may help me out in future. I have had previous discussions with you on a thread about valve seat cutting i have neway cutters and you consider them shit but i know a fair few companies that use them. Feel free to give advice were you think its needed as like i said i like to learn different ways of doing things which seems something you are not. Thanks for your time

I didn't see that one coming. By the way, I can confirm, Neway cutters are ok, if used for cleaning up a properly 3angle seat, if notm they are hardly for use in any performance application.

Just trying to share my experience, won't happen again.

Not much to update as i been so busy with work and a new mini project that wasn't supposed to be a project doh dam ebay. I found some stainless sheet at work that was perfect for the turbo downpipe bit i was stuck on. Anyway here's my progress so far.
