I've been in the south east this weekend on attachment to 637 VGS as my usual squadron have been stopped flying because of the Olympic airspace restrictions.

Now they operate out of an abandoned RAF base, RAF Little Rissington, in the south east. However they only use the airfield at the weekends, so during the week it is completely empty, bar the farmer that cuts the grass around the runways.

Now I had a chat with their commanding officer, about having a go on their runways, and he said it would be fine, and gave me the code for the gate.

So, I was wondering if there would be any interest in having a day here, there are three runways to play with plus a peri track around the edge.

I'm open to suggestions about how to go about organising this, but there are a few potential problems, one being that it would only be possible on a week day, and the other being that most people here live up north, miles away from here.

So what are your thoughts?

Campings fine, there's loads of grass space, what they said was, as long as there's no damage to the runways then it's all fine

I'm impressed they said yes. These days there seems to be pointless bureaucracy stopping things like this happening.

Good work, shame I'm so far away.

This would be great.

Probably be best to keep it low key and only pass on details of location/time/date etc in registered members area. The last thing you'd want to happen is have a gaggle of chavs turn up for a pissed banger racing tournament.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

What would we do though? Hoon around a bit, maybe see who can brake that little bit too late and overshoot the end of the runway?

Seems a little pointless without proper tracks, timing equipment and somebody responsible to keep us in line...
