Hey guys, I was doing a search for fuse ratings and found this topic:

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=375616

Says in there the coilpack can draw 20a, this is concerning me.

I have hard cut rev limiter so I wire the power feed to the megajolt, the wire that came out of the coilpack plug was really thin, so I replaced it with a similar size cable (as obv there wasnt enough of the standard cable).

Whats concerning me is that the cable will set me on fire because its not chunky enough, itll fry the megajolt? And I dont know what fuse I need for the Megajolt now as I was going to get a 2/3a fuse before I read that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys :)

The coilpack should have a seperate power supply/fuse. They can come off the same fuse on the fusebox (30A), but then have another inline fuse at 2A for the supply to the megajolt.

EDIT: I used 1mm thinwall cable for most of my electrics, but 2mm for driving high current things like coil packs, headlights etc..

Hello Matty,

The wiring diagram for hte plug says that if you have the hardcut rev limiter installed then you need to put the coilpack's power supply from the megajolt?

I would be very surprised if the coil pack took anywhere near 20A. The race car uses about 4A in total when running which is basically the MS, EDIS and coil pack. You will get away with 1mmsq, but 1.5mm might be better.

The MJ uses very little current and don't forget that the fuse is protecting the cable not the MJ.

so I should just put a 5a fuse in for the MJ so it includes enough for hte MJ and the coilpack?

yeah, the coil packs draw 7A peak, which probably less than an amp normally depending on rpm

if it draws 7a peak then should I get a 10a fuse for the MJ? as, in theory, itll pop the fuse. If the MJ draws 3a and the coil draws 7a peak then as they aer both connected I should need a 10a fuse?

The MJ he has there is an older version than mine, The molex plug for mine above is above, said to put the power for the coil on the MJ so the hardcut limiter can cut the power when it needs to.

Do I add the 2/3a fuse and the 7a fuse together to make a 10a fuse for the mj as its powering the coil?

Cheers

10A fuse is about right maybe 15A, its protection for the wiring if anything goes wrong rather thsn to protect the coil/ edis

does it matter then that the wiring is tiny (like the original wiring on teh coil connector) ??

sort of not,

I'd go for a 10 A fuse, if you get a short the fuse will go quite quickly before the wire gets a chance to get hot
