Australia oi oi oi!

Hi lads i hear alot of mention of this.

i think i even read a keith cavler tip on blocking this up?

am i correct that it is not needed? and it is best not to have it on any engine?

any risk in blocking it off longevity wise on a engine?

At high pressure it lets unfiltered oil back into the engine, most of what you read says block it as you never want unfiltered oil.

you can weld it up, or looking at it give the cage that holds the ball and spring in place a little squeeze with a screw driver to stop the ball from being able to move.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I am,

I would advise that in cold climates you let the engine warm up before giving it stick though, as the cold oil will have trouble getting through the filter.

yep I have an DNS billet jobbie oil filter head, before that I squeezed the ball cage a bit to hold the ball in place.

My understanding is that it's there for when the filter gets blocked. It then allows oil flow bypassing the filter. One person commenting on our filter heads argued that he'd rather have dirty oil around the engine than no oil.

Fair point, but is anyone really running an engine with a filter totally blocked???!!!

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Mine is blanked and has been for 14 years
No problems, but Joe c advice is spot on.

You need to change the filter even more frequent
IMO. .it does take 2 seconds for the pressure to build up from cold though, but to no detrement
