is the RTS clutch really worth it though?

Does it make a massive difference?

Yes. It saves you using a pre-verto with a really heavy spring and risking ruining your thrusts.

Have a search, the RTS only can be a verto!

yep, they are the tits IMO,

first off, you can have much more clamping pressure than the strongest non verto, the double grey is around 1250lb clamping pressure, by my calcs two 998 springs should be around this strength, two 1300 springs is about 1500lb and two turbo springs is something like 1750-1800 lb which should hold 300 hp IMO.

second... and most important, with the non verto you get all the clamping pressure against the thrusts, on the verto is is approx 1/3... so for the strongest RTS you'll see about 600 lb against the thrusts, which is similar to a std non verto clutch.

third, the verto is essentially self adjusting so you should never have to dick around with that 7/16 bolt on the wok again.

there are some things against the RTS, you'll never be able to get it as light as the lightest non verto clutch, but with med's billet cover you can get it petty light, certainly enough for a performance car, but not somthing you'd run in a miglia.

This might be a silly question, but how do you identify verto springs?

thickness,

iirc, turbo ones are 2.4mm, 1300 ones 2.2mm and 998 ones a bit thinner, theres a few exeptions though.

It's the best clutch I've had.

The grey that was in before, munched the thrusts, resulting in a complete rebuild and felt very primitive in comparison.

Touch wood, I've not had to touch it since its been in.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Easy to do? I've looked through a few of the posts and got a bit blown away by the techy stuff.

clutch thoughts - a thread started by robert ( the R in RTS!! )

if you cant work it out from that thread your best off getting someone ( ie sprocket) to build it for you

I'll read it again and see if I can get my head around it. Would no doubt be easier with the bits and pieces at hand. I asked sproket, but don't think he makes them anymore.

does it have to be made from 2 brand new clutches? Or could I use my old turbo clutch, my new turbo clutch and a brand new turbo friction plate?

Furthermore, I take it, the things we are doubling up on is the little prongy things in the middle?

its not that hard,

the tricky bit is making the spacers as they have to be longer by the amount of the added spring, a lathe is ideal, but possible without.

apart from that, your just drilling the rivets out, tapping the holes they leave M8, and using m8x20 capheads to put it back together agian.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

as long as the cluches are in ok condition 2nd hand ones are fine, just check the friction surface, crank taper hole, and the springy fingers for weare in the middle.

and yep, double up the springy fingers.

Ahh okay :) Will take a look at this depending on how well the std turbo clutch holds up (its one of those 20% uprated ebay jobbies) Hoping for around 120bhp when its all tuned and sorted so we will see

I PMed Robert a few months back and he was very helpful and friendly about the situation but was too busy to make one for me. I might have a go myself now :)
