I currently have a 1098 engine and I'm struggling to find a 1275 engne for sale that can be delivered to northern ireland.

I was wondering what sort of power reliability I would get from tuning a 1098 or adding a turbo to it

Has any of the forum members done this or currently using a 1098.

I had a read through this site http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/speedwell1.htm

Any advice welcomed

I can't seem to find any decent 1100 pistons.

Everything appears to be standard replacement 4 ring jobbies apart from the flat top swifty items.

It's that revs that kill 1100, so a turbo conversion with a max rpm of 6500 is the best way to go. A reliable 120bhp or more should be doable.

Should produce good torque too with the longer stroke.

Have you tried the local NI mini forums? I have had a few heavy things including bottom ends sent from England without too much grief.

Northamptonshire.

Why not swop pistons and crank for 998 :) but here's a thread he's building a 1100 turbo http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=473901

I might be wrong but I think they will sit proud of the block 3,5 mm (they share the same rods and block height so it is just extra stroke divided by 2)

Rusty by nature

for what it is worth, back in the distant, I ran an 1100 with an MG metro cam and 295 head, lcb and HIF carb. the car performed as well as the replacement mg metro engine i put in afterwards with the exception of less torque.

I had something similar, 1098 +20, 270 piper cam, 295 head, lcb, etc, at the time it was just as quick as my mates 1275 carb Cooper.
