Ok, been doing a bit of research on this and with the lack of computer techie understanding, havew come up with conflicting info both on here and on the interweb.

i had 3 ebay ones that wouldnt work then i forked out £20 for the maplins one, the maplins one worked just fine

You can if you know what chipset is in the adapter is it just a usb to serial adapter?
