Quick one guys,

Is it ok to give the head gasket surface on the head and block a light sand using a block and some emery, just to take of the tarnish etc?

If so what grade 800 ??

Thanks

Brocky

If the engine is apart them yes but clean thoroughly afterwards, otherwise I wouldn't be doing so on a built up engine.

Last thing you want is bits of aluminium oxide abrasive within the engine assembly

Use a gasket scraper and clean the surfaces with solvent afterwards

Yeh, engine is fully stripped down and block is going in to the shop for some work,

Just wonder what is the recommended roughness of the head surface for sealing, i.e. what grade of wet and dry I should be using ??

Thanks
