Just wanted your opinions.... do your drop S/cut drop gears rattle on tick over, when you depress the clutch it stops, its a new clutch and bearing, fitted, sounds abit like its not quite out of gear whilst idling..
Cheers

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

YES this is normal EDIT: for the sc drop gears, the sc gearset is a little noisey about 5% more than helicals

Yes, sounds like a bag of nails on idle. But great when giving it some throttle!

It depends alot on the idle characteristics of the cam and the type of flywheel in use.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I may also have this 'problem'. Idle is very chattery, it does when clutch pressed. I thought it was the clutch release, put a new one on qnd its the same. So the consensus is that the drops cause this? They are tranx straight cut drops, covered around 1 k miles, but its alway sounded like this. Run an ultralight pre verto setup with phase 2 cam

If the clutch is disengaging properly then it must be somewhere else as they'll be stationary with the clutch in, the vehicle I assume is not moving.

Is it the timing chain rattling or fouling the cover?

Hi, timing cover modded, so clearence is there. I run a duplex chain, usually tension them but ran without a tensioner this time. It might be that? Have also always had problems with the clutch, changed the lot, cylinders, arms, plate etc etc, its adjusted properly but need to extend the arm a fraction as its still not quite right, pops out of reverse etc

welshdan about your reverse gear, the gear its self will not just pop out its a straight cut gear that has next to no side load also it slides into place when in gauged or dis engaged so to me your problem is in the selection mechanism not fully or pulling it out rather than the gear jumping out

Hi, didnt expect this to pop up again. Cheers for the reply. I can live with this at the moment, have all new linkage bushes, roll pins etc so will change the lot over winter. If that doest work il be changing the gear linkage itself. On my last gearbox build the selectors looked ok, but did swap them for an almost new set just incase. It made very little or no difference
