Chaps, was wondering what size/type wheels to put on the motor when the time comes?

I did read somewhere (but can't recall where & can't find it again) that the size and type of tyre you use in combination with the engine you are running can increase or decrease the overall performance.

Now, I'm quite a bit off putting wheels on my motor but I thought I'd do a bit of investigating... I have searched on here but not finding the answers I'm looking for.

The wheels I have at the moment are 7x13 revolutions with 175/50 R13 yokohamas, I was thinking about changing these to minilites (just because I prefer the look), but was wondering if, in the eyes of others, this would be a big mistake?

Thanks in advance..

Dave. *happy*

the combination of the wheel size and diff ratio will affect the performance,

following link may help a little

You will not get consensus on wheel size. Everyone has their own preference based on their use.

As a general rule go no wider than 6".

The big issue with all mini wheel sizes is tyre choice these days.

Hi guys.. here is the basic spec..

1293cc, OMEGA cast Race pistons 10cc bowl
Avonbar phase 2 cam BILLET X
Cylinder head combustion chambers cut bigger to 26cc
1.3 RATIO ROLLER ROCKERS
GEARBOX FITTED WITH CLUBMAN STRAIGHT CUT GEAR
MINI SPARES 4 PIN DIFFERENTIAL
C/R... 8.4:1, turbo'd up of course...

Wil_h..... why no bigger than 6"? I'm sure there is some mind boggling science behind it but if you simplify it in 'simpleton' terms I'm all ears lol..

At 7" you end up with a large scrub radius and such a large offset that you will get massive torque steer. Made even worse with lots of power.

Having said that I use 7" wheels on my hillclimber. BUT, it's a race car so is on smooth roads and it has a plate LSD and suspension settings to make it all work. Non of which would be any use on a road car.

My road car has 5.5x13s and is great.

Ok cool... yup that makes a bit more sense. In fairness it will be mainly a road car, just for a bit of fun when I can get out in it.

Maybe the possibility of racing in the future but at the mo just for fun.

I like my 7" wheels.... *frown*

Cheers guys... I'll take it all on board, if I could find a great looking wheel it wouldn't matter the size. I'm sure we're mostly the same... 'Looks' is a big part of it!
