what final drive are you running on your turbo mini's.

currently have a 3.44:1 fitted in the mini but thinking of changing it to a 3.1:1 for the turbo build.
hopefully this should drop the revs on motorway journeys and aid with traction *tongue*

whats your thoughts and does anyone have a 3.1:1 crown wheel and pinon for sale.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

I had a 2.9 for a while, was great for motorway journeys. I now have a 3.2 fd and find it a lot more enjoyable to drive. Its a great all rounder in my opinion!

Mine is a 2.9 with 10 inch wheels. Not tried it yet but should suit the open roads in cornwall nicely

not yet run it but 2.95 on the club man close ratios works out at 100kph at 3k (4th) and 100kph at 5.5k (2nd)
if its to slow off the line ill change it
but i think it will be just what im wanting due to where i live mostly 60kph and up with little stops and a few good roads to wind it out one hehe the turbo should be able to push it along well !! if i hit 6k id be doing 200kph! i think things will get kinder scarey before that!!

im using a 3.1 diff .

with the 2.58 1st gear its a little bit high for hills , and gives around 19mph/1000 rpm in top ,with 165 65 12 tyres.

for drag racing I am crossing the line at around 112 mph and 5900 to 6000 rpm ,which with pk power at 6900 is a bit low and slows me down , I would be faster with the 3.2 diff , but then not have as low cruising rpm on the motorway or as good economy . its all a bit of a compromise .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

3.2 final drive came ONLY in the Metro turbo

Certain 80's Minis came with a 3.105 final drive which is quite easy to get hold of and obviously pretty close to the 3.2

I had a feeling that some spi minis also had the 3.2??

I run 13s with a 3.1 and close ratio gearset. It has a knack to get it going, but flies on the road once going. Perfect for me for fast road

SPI Coopers had a 3.2 FD too.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

3.2s also came in late Metros with the economy drop gears. Got one sat under the bench now ready to be dismantled.

From painful experience, the 3.1 in my ST ratio sccr box is waaaay too long for first gear. It's a nightmare off the line.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
