Hi Dan

evening chaps I am thinking about moving a few bits around under the bonnet of my car at present I run a pipe from the compressor inlet to the filter, with a re-circulating dump valve on the way. the current filter sits next to the rad. this must give fairly high intake temps, especially when using the car in the summer (as I usually do) so I was thinking about routing the piping so that the air filter sits behind the grille the only way I can see to do this is to run the pipe across the rear of the rocker cover (above the exhaust mani) and then around the clutch end of the block and to behind the grille. this is probably going to entail using maybe 1-1.5 metres of piping between the filter and compressor inlet. so I have three questions - 1/ I know running the inlet above the exhaust manifold wont be great, bit the air will be travelling so fast through the pipe that it will not heat up whilst passing through this section - does this sound about right? 2/will there be any detrimental effect on performance or engine running by running such a long pipe between the compressor and filter? 3/ is there any real life gain by relocating the filter down behind the grille, hopefully in fresh air flow? finally I am changing the intercooler and upping the boost, so will get all of this set up on the rollers at once. cheers, dan BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

I would make something for right up front, or id you dont mind straight out of the bonnet (I have done this on my metro) about 3" raised from the bonnet scooping into the enclosed filter, stays really cold to the touch even after a hard drive when everything around is warm or hot Drives

Cheers chaps. I would just run the hose to behind the grille with the green cotton filter there. Does anyone else have any views on this? Cheers, dan |

Put the filter where it's easiest, then just duct cool air to it from wherever, with space in the bay limited as it is, no point in making life difficult for yourself by relocating it towards the front. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

Example of general filter location, should see enough cool air, plus if the fan isn't 100% in the cowling it's going to blow cool air out centrifugally towards the filter I'd have thought. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:
