As some of you know, I've decided to sell my mk1 to buy something different that I'll get more use out of, but I am struggling to work out value. Some rot boxes on eBay go for 4k + but then some nice examples don't reach that. Mine is a 1960 fully restored, I think it had 37 new panels in the end. It runs and drives fine, but needs a gearbox rebuild, and a few other bits finishing off (nothing major). Both front seats are ripped, but I have one mint replacement seat.

I can't decide what to ask for it? Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers
Matt

I'm not sure how much help this will be but a guy in our club has his mk1 850 which has not long been put on the road, a bit rough around the edges (paint is awful!) but is MOTed has got his agreed at £8500. I think his might be a super deluxe too. Depends how quickly you want to get rid of it to be honest, maybe post some photos to help :)

Have a look Shauna:

In my mind that should do quite a bit more than 4000 quid..
You have the pictures to support the restoration quality and total work done.. (I think it's brilliantly done!)

Just my thoughts,

A you can see a lot of work has gone into it, I'm just not sure how much he gearbox rebuild, and interior bits will devalue it. Is it classed as a non runner?

Wouldn't have thought it would be a non runner if the engine starts and works as it should, Easily £4k plus in my eyes even with the gearbox needing some attention.

deffo worth more like 5 or 6k if it is as good as the pics make out.

if you have time it would be nice to lob a new box on it.

I've been wanting to do the box ever since I built the car. I literally chucked it In For the mag shoot, and its been like that ever since.

I haven't got the space to have this one in pieces as well as the turbo motor, otherwise it would definitely be worth doing. Which is the main reason I'm selling, due to no storage space, and leaving it outside just seems to be a waste.

Could you do a deal with someone like guessworks to get an exchange box from him? just pay the surcharge until you send yours back?

I'm sure you could do engine out and in within a day *smiley*

I would say the non working box will hurt the value, it has to be worth having it fixed as it's such a nice example!

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I'd have thought closer to 8k.

I would say that the iffy box is a minor detail for such a clean example,
