I've come across a bit of an issue while refitting the engine. I'm using the standard oil feed pipe (and did before - nothing has changed!). When i was trying to fit the banjo bolt into the block yesterday, it took forever to fit and the pipe needed a bit of fettling. Now i do remember it got a little bent when it was removed so didn't think much of it.

Today, we tried to get oil pressure and ended up with oil pissing out the back of the banjo connection. I've replaced the copper washers but after a couple of attempts to get it sealed, i really don't want to tighten it anymore.

Now looking at it, the pipe banjo naturally sits off the block and gives the impression that there should be some sort of spacer between the banjo and the block. Now i don't recall having one fitted before and don't have any spare bits left over.

So the question is, does the original pipe simply bolt up direct to the block? Assuming this, i've just bent the pipe that badly it doesn't allow the fitting to site tight to the block

To the best of my knowledge, no. The banjo would need to bolt up tight to seal

There is only a copper washer infront and behind the banjo.

Have yo tried loosening the flare nut on the filter head and then tightening the banjo?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Just throw it away and fit a braided flexible pipe.

try just the bolt in the block and measure how deep it goes in then compare that to the thickness of the lot all assembled to check its not bottoming out of getting fowled?

besides that no marks or raised bits on the block bolt pipe?

hard to believe it wouldn't pull up and seal if there was enough threads to pull up crushing the copper washers in there should be two copper washers one block to pipe the other pipe to bolt head

Colin; the pipe in question is the turbo supply, not the one from the filter head - it bolts into the pressure switch hole below the block oil feed

Dave; I've got a braided hose on the shelf but I quite like the factory look; that and I cant work out why it fitted before and not now

The pipe looks like it is fouling the block as it comes round the 90deg bend to the banjo fitting but when you look closely at where it bolts up to, the boss where is bolts up to is recessed from the block corner if that makes sense

What I have managed to gather, I think, is that I have nothing missing and it is simply down to the pipe being out of shape

This thread shows the bits used as standard to fit the oil feed pipe. Basically a banjo bolt holds the oil feed against the block, and the oil pressure switch screws into it. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=569805

I found that thread but it wasn't too clear if the shorter fitting in the photo was bolted into the block first and the banjo bolt screws into this fitting?

Had a look at mine, and it's small fitting into block, oil feed, banjo, oil pressure switch. I'd forgotten about the smaller fitting.

Perfect, think that is my issue. Just need to work out where my fitting has gone to now

contrary to my original comment, I think you are correct.

issue was due to me mislaying a crucial boss which has an NPT thread which goes into the block first
