I just finished rebuilding my turbo with a new rebuilt kit, Now I still have the same play on the shaft as I had before.*frown*
Smokey as ever..*tongue*
I could not measure any wear on the shaft during the rebuilt, actually, one could hardly tell by the marks on the shaft were the bearings were running.
Can anyone help me out how to tackle this problem? or maybe come up with some advise.

Other than that Its running at about 7-8 PSI and it great fun to drive, boosting up at 2500RPM and no further problems. I have 11cc dished pistons fitted with 22cc head.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

arno did you recon the blower because you suspected the seals have gone?

i suspect if you found the seals ok this is not you problem!

you are now back to where you were *frown*

now then if the motor is fairly new and the CR checks out ok within limits.........
check the breathers are sufficient!

& make sure you are running nothing less than a 40 grade oil
also make sure the mixture is not overly rich
then if no change!
try dropping your oil levell from the full mark to the min mark on the stick *wink**smiley*

take her for a blast !*wink*

stowmaket suffolk

and dont over filll your dash pot you just need about 1 cm from plunger when it hits the oil to the top of the carb if that makes sense any more than this and the engine will suck it out in no time.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

thanks for the input:cool:, however, I do not care about any oil loss or that it is smokey.
The point is that the turbo still has a lot of play in the shaft and that I think that I can hear it grind.
(its a convertible, I hear everything, I enoy myself)

Does it matter much?? should it be like this?? how much is little play??

many questions, but I want it to be reliable so I can use it more often.
any help is appreciated.

I just measured turbo shaft play and found it way beyond the maximum as detailed in the book. When driving I can hear it grind. Despite the complete rebuilt kit I put in as stated above.
What to do next?*frown* any ideas?, Obviously the shaft is to thin or the bearings are to wide.
Anyone want to sell me a decent T3? without play and with a non cracked housing.

Next to the above prob, I found (think) that the engine is detonating a bit, no matter how much/less advanced ignition i give it.*angry*

I run a basic Metro turbo setup at the moment with about 7-8psi boost.*smiley*
Other tan that I feel good.*happy*

de beak the chamber in the head

on a std 1275 this would lower the CR ratio to around 8.5:1

you could then run 10 psi boost without det on Optimax

but with intercooler up to 14psi on a standard set up thats if the rest of the motor is up to it

i can provide this service if you wish! PM me

the turbo well, get hold of another if your unhappy with the one you have attempted to repair.

Cheers mate.
At the moment I am unhappy with the T3. The block i am running? I cant be bothered really, its a severe abused std 1275 but....

I had some Mega pistons reworked to 14cc by Morspeed and another block is rebored at the moment. I will rebuilt the new block when it gets back and than have the 22cc head fitted and install a fresh turbo.

On the lookout for a decent T3 now.*happy* anyone?

Benross!
What does 'det on optimax' mean?*smiley*
