Is there an ideal length for an turbo exhaust? And how much damping is needed to make slilent enough so your ears won't bleed. I have some clearence issues and have to options. 1 i re - drill the holes in my galvenised subframe but then I'm worried about the space to the front. Or 2 i take the exhaust down the wing drill it trough the a panel and leave it there. Maybe with enough room for a small motorcycle damper.

Like to hear your thoughts and ideas and theory's about exhausts.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

What setup do you have? Sidemount, rear mount turbo?

I've always just ran a single silencer, RC40 and it's been very quite, as the turbo silences a lot of the noise out. I up now have a carbon motorbike back box on it, but yet to hear how loud it is. :*oh well*

I'll soon be making an exhaust for someone running the downpipe out of the drivers wing and along the drivers floor, but that has a tunnel made for it so it's not stupidly close to the floor.

straight through stainless, 3 inch rc40 backbox, not too loud. The gears and turbo are louder

Its a side mount setup. Heard about turbo acting like a mufler. But only one i ever heard without a mufler on was the 8liter turbo dragracer from dads old mate... not really that quit but also not comparable... ( i hope)

What are you proposing and what are the problems ?

There should be plenty of room for a decent exhaust on a mini to keep noise levels quite low, and yes the turbo itself will help reduce noise overall.

RC40 and 2" pipe and it is quieter than most
other classic cars.

Our US cousins refer to turbos as rotary mufflers.

A bike can is suitable for a race car and easy to package, but it's not what I'd choose for a road car.

To keep it quiet best to get the exhaust to the back. I've always used a Maniflow 2" for a road car and it's not too noisy. I have an RC40 on the Nimbus and it's just as quiet quiet.

Most noise in my cars comes from the lack of sound proofing, rather than it being too loud.

Could i have the holes like from a mpi frame. But thing is. That only leaves me with about 12 mm of free space between the exhaust and the body. Once wraped in heat wrap wont be much left ( bit over 2 inch exhaust pipe. ) can go and tilt the engine more forward but then the alternator and starter engine get realy close to the nose and grill. Not impossible though. But was lookinginto the options.

The car won't be exactly road legal over here in belgium so won't do that much miles in every year. Yet do want to come over at the uk in it for trackdays..

It has second to none insulation in it and frameis bolted to the car. I do realise that it will never be super still but just don't want to go back to the stripped out open exhaust car i drove when i was younger. Had to scream to the person next to you if you wanted to say turn here.... 😕

We've just put a 2 1/4" or 57mm exhaust off a side mount through the usual route. Discussed here:

I'm currently building a sidemount setup, and there is enough room for a 2.25 downpipe. Where abouts is yours tight for space? Any pics?

I would have to take a look for pics but as being thight it looks the same as the pics in Paul s his tread ( link)

Looks closer than it is.

Full mockup ( old exhaust used to find al the bends and twists hollow engine to. . )

Bend commes from a original saab exhaust but is shortened. ( nearly 60 mm)

Servo is out. No longer keeping that.
