Is there any reason why you can't use a non turbo alloy inlet manifold in conjuction with a turbo ?

I guess the shape of the original owes to an even pressure distrubution across the ports but would I cause any damage ?

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Thanks Nic

I guess the best way is to check if there is a clash issue.

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the mg N/A manifold flows slightly better than the turbo manifold as fast Carl & turbo dave found on the flow bench.

but.... the turbo manifold, the distribution is far better, Leyland did there home work on this one and got it spot on!*happy*

but you can use what you like!

having the best at reasonable cost is the best way! *wink*

the mg manifold positions the carb rather close to the turbo exhaust manifold

the mounting flanges are a lot thinner than the exhuast ones,so you need to make some stepped washers to hold it on

Metro turbo weekend driver,Mini turbo in the making again!

It is not so much pressure distribution, but mixture distribution.

As the air/fuel is travelling quickly into the inlet ports, if you use the MG inlet, it tends to bias towards the outer two inlet valves, meaning the inner two run slightly lean. On a NA engine this isn't a problem as you have vacuum from the cylinders all the time that pulls the fuel in the right direction.

In a turbo application when "on boost" the velocity of the air pushing in causes this mixture bias to occur. Hence the turbo manifold has runners at 90 degrees to the manifold flange, so that the mixture enters the inlet port in a straight line, so neither cylinder is then biased.

As ben points out, the MG item does flow SLIGHTLY better than the turbo item, but not enough really to warrant using it in light of the bias problem!

I would only ever use the turbo manifold, think of the potential for damage if running lean at high revs high boost!

Also for e.g. Jon Flan uses the turbo manifold and makes great power, so obviously it does not restrict the engine.

Thanks Tom

I thought there had to be a good reason for the difference.

On that note - does anyone have a turbo inlet manifold they could sell me ?

I already have one its my friend in Aus that needs it...

stowmaket suffolk

also its a damn site easier to fit and remove than the NA manifold as you can get to the nuts.

takes seconds to remove rather than 20 mins.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
