Just a quick question on head gaskets

Do you have to switch to the Group A setup at plus 10 psi ?

What are peoples views on this and at what point does reliablity become an issue ?

If you have nice surface ground faces, keep it rich, and intercool can you up this figure reliably ?

I have taken my cr down to 8.5 ish and de beaked the chambers, basically head spec as per avonbar.

I intend to use a cossy 2wd intercooler, high boost carb bits and NA MG cam with standard turbo springs and rockers.

Not decided what to use for the timing but have a standard turbo dizzy, does anyone know how to modify the advance mechanism.
I think it is the later dizzy which I know doesn't have the best advance charateristics but beggers can't be choosers !

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Sounds good

So what is a good reliable starting level in terms of my engine spec(as above). I was thinking 10-12 psi. I have no bottom end mods just reconditioned 1312

Cheers brocky

that sounds fine as long as its in good nick.

+40 mega pistons?

then jsut make sure the gearbox is up to the torque really although at 10-12psi a well built std box will cope fine

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

i would also IMO fit a minispares x pin diff
nothing less

i would change the springs and guids for sure!

although the mg cam is a excellent choice!

my moneys on the phase 2 cam as its not too fussy about parts conflict !

it just make the goods.

the clutch is the next weak ling even on this boost pressure, closley followed by the box its like iain says a good box

Thanks guys,

The pistons I got from my mate at lancaster engines, he said they were just +40 turbo pistons, they had a noticably deep crown before the first ring on them if I remember when compare to some 73.5 powermax I had at the time.

I fully reconditioned the box, even used the turbo bearings (look the same but have different letter on the end of the part number), some kind of heatreat I think. Even changed the larger bearing on the nose of the first motion shaft.

I was thinking of fitting the minispares uprated diff pin and pinions but I think a cross pin is the way to go if I'm uping the boost.

What valve springs would you recomend ? I have some new guides to fit once I ve finished my head grinding off. I have fitted MG NA inlets and retained the standard sodium cooled exhaust valves.

I have an orange diapham with road plate on a old 1100cc flywheel.

Cheers guys

ok Dave *wink* , Minispares 180lb springs and nothing else.
orange plate will slip well before you want it to. A grey is needed. Machine backplate lugs to 23.5mm instead of 25.4mm. that'll be more than enough to be going on with.

Not too bad Dave *happy*

Thanks for the advice, as I know from experience the right advice is worth its weight in gold LOL!

Just moved out in to the country a bit, about 30 miles from the city... God its quiet at night ! The little girls nearly 2, and life is interesting at the mo.
If you know any professional mechanical engineers looking for work in the uk just now tell them to take a look at the Offshore Oil and gas industry in Aberdeen or anywhere for that matter, they are screeming out, even offering conversion courses, starting at 35k !! A senior contract structual engineer ie 5 years are getting between £300-£400 a day !!

Anyway hope to get the shell into the painters before xmas, (theres a paint shop in the workshop at work. He has a proper extractor and heaters to ! He usually sprays sub sea structures, but does the odd homer, he's currently working on my doors, boot, and FG Front end.
Just bought my paint but need to cut out my rear arches and weld in some plate, just don't seem to get the time with the family and all!
Done most of the hard work, screen corner repair, apanel and sill. Put in a custom bulkhead box, nice and deep and wide, with a slight pitch on the bottom ledge to allow run off of any water etc.

How the hell are you anyway ?

Did you flip a coin in the end ?

Cheers Brocky

Well it's been that long i don't remember what coil i was flipping - but i now reside in the USofA, drive a 5litre pickup and have developed a taste for WhiteCastle burgers...
Also have a girl living with me for the first time ever, which is interesting - but we'll see how that pans out...

Nothing else more to add!
