Never had a problem on any engine i've fitted them to. If you use propietry jets (eg, ford Zetec) these have a pressure valve in them, that doesn't flow till over 10 (+) psi, so don't risk starving your engine of oil at startup.

Just make sure you use the Avonbar Sureflow pump (or metro turbo pump) and you'll have no problems at all.

thanks for your reply

I'm from Portugal and here the 2.0 ford zetec have never been sold so i dont have these jets.

I'm thinking use jets from Renault Clio 1.9 diesel but i think they dont have any valve.

Do you not have the Ford Mondeo/Escort/Focus in Portugal?

The "Zetec" is the name of the engine fitted to these models of cars, I think maybe Dave has confused you on that one?

If you have a Ford parts dealer near you it may be worth enquiring, they may be able to get you the jets from the 2.0 engine?

Some people use these jets, others don't bother. It probably helps slightly, but isn't essential really?

I'm pretty sure the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 Zetec engine all have the jets.

They're certainly not essential by any means, but if you're planning a high boost motor, or just want to try everything to maximise reliability, for the small cost involved they're worth it.

Try asking your Ford dealer for this part no. "1053936" item description "Valve Assy".

Hope this helps. *smiley*

I'll try and get a diagram of the Zetec block uploaded - so you can print it off and take it to your parts place so they know where to look.

There are other ones out there aswell.

As regards their fitment - no, they're not "essential".

BUT...

Ask yourself whey EVERY production turbodiesel engine, and every high-performance petrol turbo engine has them fitted. It certainly isn't to look pretty; they have a function - to take heat away from the piston crown quickly.
You know how quickly you can cool something down by pouring water onto it, well the same is true of piston cooling. If you spray cool oil onto a piston, your immediately taking heat out of the piston. If you don't, that heat can only escape through the piston skirt into the bore - and as this is a sliding fit, with a limited contact area, it's never going to be that efficient at transferring heat.

Well volunteered that man!

I'm snowed under with Manifolds, EFI, clutches, and some annoying thing called WORK at the moment...
Peter; crack on - I'll send some pictures to you that will assist before you start, along with a quick description, but i'm waaaaay too short of time at the mo.

I'll do something about EFI though!
I'm picking up the 'baton' from Marcel hopefully, and going all-out to get EFI working over the next 9 months (deadline is June 2006 before MME).

I know its a bit of the subjrct but recently went to a perkins diesel engine at work the was knocking at work. Removeed the sump to find one of the under crown jets had snapped off, braised it back together and refitted and ran perfect so they did make a difference in that application.
