What parts can be bent, damaged, broken or missing to cause the inner cv joint to not sit in the pot far enough?

The 'balls' of the inner joint aren't in the pot so it's a good inch or so.
With a quick look in the dark it looks like the top arm, bottom arm, steering arm, tie bar and tie bar mount all look ok, it is sitting slightly low on that corner.

I haven't had a proper look yet, but any ideas appriciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Wrong shaft?

Maybe you're trying to fit a metro 'short' shaft into where a 'long' mini shaft should be?

Do you have the right shaft on the right side? The 2 shafts are different lengths.

I seriously doubt it!

Thanks for the idea's, but it's the nearside i have the problem which is the shorter shaft anyway.

A bit more background info:

It's a rally car,
the donuts (and all other components) are fairly new,
Definatly not the wrong shaft
It happened on the last stage of the last rally, but we finished,
earlier in the event a curb 'got in our way'!
tonight the car lost all drive, so i was finally able to see what was happening - the joint is right out of the pot.

Hi,
For the non scientific approach measure the distances between the top and bottom balljoints and the subframe, compare o/s to n/s. If that's ok and the wheel is in the middle-ish of the arch you need to take a good look at / measure the subframe, to see where where its bent! Unless it's the engine mounts and the whole lot has been shunted across the subframe *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

Thanks for all the idea's

The outer square section circlip is still in place,
I don't think the upper or lower arms have 'magically' extended, the lower arms are adjustable but the camber doesn't look like a stupid amount,
engine mounts are both fine,
can't see anywhere twisted or bent, but i will do some measurements.

Thanks again,
Mark.
