Just thinking about replacing the front subframe mounts on my estate before the engine goes in.

Can this be done without removing the subframe completely ?

It currently has no other connections to the car so now would be the ideal time to drop it out and fit a set of polyflex (or similar) mounts.

What would anyone recommend I fit ?

Hi,
Fit solid mounts, nothing else it going to take the hammering they'll get with a turbo motor. It'll make the handling a little sharper aswell! You can fit rubber mounts on the toeboard if you want to reduce the noise transmitted from the subframe(assuming you haven't got a flip front!) No need to remove subby completely, just unbolt, lower and fit new...... sounds dead easy like that!
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

duno how old the car is, but if it originally had rubber mounted subby keep the toeboard mounts rubber, the solid ones can (and probably will) cause the toeboard to crack. Solid tower mounts are great (seriously), road noise does increase, but only really noticable when going over bumps. Solid mounted front ones are u/s and expensive, so i'd replace these with std.

andeh , here, here to that.

I only have standard ones, and they are fine. And i think you can fit standard one with out to much work and without taking the frame out.

Top advice folks - thanks very much !

It's a 79 clubby estate (you'd never guess !) and it really needs front floors replaced.

So the best plan is to fit solid tower mounts (I have a 16V Vauxhall Mini with nylon top mounts that work very well) but leave the remainder standard.

Cheers and merry xmas to you all ! *happy*
