Hi,
The concensus on here is the Avonbar phase 2 cam is the best thing since someone realised you could cut a loaf of bread instead of eating it wholesale.
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

The important thing is a long exhaust duration. The turbo can push the air in OK, you just have to help the engine clear the exhaust out as easily as possible.

I donated, but somehow didn't get the label! :(

jimmy the 266 kent cam is an excellent cam

its a hairs breath from a n/a mg cam

but is slightley better and i mean slightley

the phase 2 is excellent!

i would go as far as to say that the 266 would be a shade bit more civialised on the road.
than the phase 2

if you are after HUGHE! POWER the phase 2 has much to commend it!

the road manners are excellent as well!

The P2 certainly doesn't seem to be a limiting factor when big power is sought. Go with it ..... *smiley*

The 266 is a mild road cam which is an improvement on standard, but not that radical.

The P2 however is tailored to the turbo engine, with long exhaust duration, ideally suited to the turbo motor. If you are going all out you want the P2 nothing less!

What do u consider long duration?

I always thought long duration was a no no n high lift good for turbo motors??

What's the Ph3 like? Purely academic question, I'm throwing my cam away!

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

A couple of hp up from the phase 2 at the top, but losses loads at the bottom

What are the specs on this Ph2 cam you refer to ???

And what is its LSA ??

To simply rely on the turbo forcing air into a short duration inlet isnt really ideal either.

Why not widen the LSA, and open the intake longer too ?
All the cam specs I read about in another thread where I asked, had very tight LSA's, which would tend to increase overlap.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

stevie here you go

the MG Metro cam, as fitted to MK2 metro VDP's, RSP Mini coopers, Metro Gta'a and 1275 Metro Sports.
It Has a 1/4" groove machined into the cam after the number one lobe.
Checking height: 0.017" @ lobe

Timing: (Intake): 16/56 (Exhaust): 59/29

Nominal lobe lift: (Intake): 0.263" (Exhaust): 0.263"

Duration (Intake): 252 (Exhaust): 268

Lobe centre angle (Intake): 110 (Exhaust): 105

Lobe separation angle: 107.5

Lift on overlap: 0.054"

NEXT is the Kent 266 a nice all round road cam, these figures are based on kents own specs.

Checking height: 0.016" @ lobe

Timing: (Intake): 24/56 (Exhaust): 61/29

Nominal lobe lift: (Intake): 0.263" (Exhaust): 0.268"

Duration (Intake): 260 (Exhaust): 270

Lobe centre angle (Intake): 106 (Exhaust): 106

Lobe separation angle: 106

Lift on overlap: 0.054"

Swift tune SW5 road cam,

Checking height: 0.016" @ lobe

Timing: (Intake): 15/49 (Exhaust): 52/12

Nominal lobe lift: (Intake): 0.281" (Exhaust): 0.281"

Duration (Intake): 244 (Exhaust): 244

Lobe centre angle (Intake): 107 (Exhaust): 110

Lobe separation angle: 108.5

Lift on overlap: 0.036"

& last is the Avonbar Phase 2

checking hight inlet 0.012" Ex 0.014

Nominal lobe lift: (Intake): 0.360" (Exhaust): 0.400"

Duration (intake) 264 (Exhaust):280

Full lift at 108 deg

But piper says 110 deg on data sheet

you can see how Swift Tune! has given their cam a shade more lift and sacrificed the nominal lift & duration!

in an attempt to make a cam for emission purposes, i believe!

its well overated for a PERFORMANCE! cam IMO!

Lets not get confused here.....

Ive been messing around with turbo engines since I was 17, and one thing I have learnt, is turbos dont like big cams !!!
But a major part of that big/small arguement is that small cams, dont have much overlap, whereas "big" cams for n/a engines, usually do.

So dont confuse what you see as a performance cam for a n/a engine, as one that will be well suited for a turbocharged engine.

I have the SW5 in my mini, and it works well as far as I am concerned. It idles perfect, will go WOT pretty much from idle in 4th, and it pulls hard to 7500rpm.
I can only guesstimate possible power, but I'd hazzard a guess at around 180bhp.
Mild cams work.
Previous to that, I had a MG Metro cam, which also worked very well. ( both cams with 1.5 rockers )

So many other factors come into play, most notably exhaust back pressure, and with that what overlap the cam is running.

I'd say the SW5 is working so well, simply because it doesnt have much overlap.

I'd like to try something like a 260/260 on an LSA of 112-114 ( wild guess there )

Ive been searching around a lot for cam info, and all theory says widen the LSA for turbos. So why havent any of the Mini crowd tried this ? ( or has anyone done tsting ?? )

LSA's of 107 etc are full on n/a profiles.

I mentioned elsewhere, i briefly tried a regular Kent 286 in my car years ago, and it was horrible. Perhaps that same cam on a wide LSA, with much reduced overlap, could work a lot better perhaps ??

Half way down, turbo cam selection.

http://www.forcedinductions.com/help.htm

Again, maybe Mini heads do go against convention, and this theory wont apply....but are they really that different ?

I believe the key to the SW working well can not be seen by the basic timing figures, I believe it has a fast opening and closing ramp, so that effective valve area is higher than the 244 duration figures would be on other conventional lift profile camshafts.
