What i need to find out is where can i get just a fuel gauge on its own? anyone know if one off ebay from say an MGB or a moggie would work ok with the mini sender? electrics really aren't my favourite thing and i'm a bit dense where they're concerned.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

ive used one from a dolomite sprint in the past,

its a smiths gauge and all you have to do is take the original wires to the new gauge

presumably any 12v smiths item will be suitable

More or less any gauge will work, the sender unit in the tank ranges from zero resistance, to open circuit, this is what the gauges use to give the position of the needle.

Hi,
Sorry Tom, but I've got to say your wrong. Gauges are all different as too are the senders. As usual in the automotive trade everyone does things differenty... Some tank senders are high resistance when the tank is full others are low. To add insult to this the resistances are different values as well! Obviously from this you can see where it all goes horribly wrong when doing a mix and match! I know 'cause I've been there! The same for temp guages too!
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

Temp gauges differ for sure, but most of the fuel gauges I have ever messed with operate as I described. But I can see how there may be different types out there.
