Hey chaps, just been outside working on the motor as i finally found some time to get working on it!

I got the fly and clutch off aswell as the crankcase to have a look at the drops. Heres a pic of the flywheel:

What do the Green and Blue marks indicate? And every tooth on the fly has a bit a ding on it, dont know if you can see in the pic but is this ok?

And this is a pic of the drops, look pretty cool i reckon! *happy*:

Hi,
The coloured mark are probably for id of which spec of cluthc it is eg std, turbo, ect. The bits cut out of the edge of each tooth are to help the pinion on the starter motor engage with the ring gear *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

Wiked, in the bin that swine goes then!

What are all of your clutch setups then, ive read people talking about different colour pressure plates/diaphrams. Ive heard there are orange, grey and double grey, what do you all have.

This may sound odd but i cant remember taking a pressure plate off of my turbo engine?! *surprised* What colour/grade are the standard prssure plates or are they not colured ie. rubbish.

The orange/grey plates you talk about are only applicable to the earlier non-verto clutch set up.

All the Metro turbos came with the verto setup, as did Minis from 1984 onwards. This change was made to stop the clutches juddering, as the early ones can be prone to that. But the vertos simply cannot cope with as much torque, hence any of us with a decent amount of power junk the verto in favour of the early setup.

I personally have a double grey and a paddle plate. That is on the extreme side of things though. For a milder spec a grey with the rally plate seems the common choice.

Usefull info Tom, thanks again. Ill be getting a new clutch for the engine sometime, so will convert to non verto as you say. Do anychanges need to be made to anything to convert a verto setup to non-verto? Thanks

Rich

Have a search, there are lots of old threads on this topic.

In short, you need the flywheel, pressure plate, driving straps, bolts etc and the clutch cover casing (known as the WOK) complete with different release bearing and plunger.
