hello i'm after some advice on prepping my car before spraying as i will get this done professionally but have never done it before, any advice on what is the best thing to use and how long do you think it will take, i presume it will rust very quickly with no paint on even though it is kept in a garage lol, cheers gav |

Can i buy an electric sander or are most air fed as i dont have a compressor, i assume i should take it down to the primer not bare metal? |

yes you can get electric sanders and if your going down to primer you might aswell carry on to the meatal ists amasing what you can find under there (rust tracking looks like brown spiders web you cant see it untill its took efect and it'll rust even quiler once theres just primer on as its not water proof) love that straight cut scream!!!

I think rubbing down by hand is the answer a sander would be good for large flat areas but there are none on a mini.

I would say use P180 grit paper to finish it off. Dont use wetordry on filler as the water will stay in the filler and rust the metal underneath aswell as causing microblisters after the whole thing is painted, then youll have to strip it all off again. Make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies, but if it is not spot on dont worry too much because no matter how good you make it a painter, myself included would always finish it off to the way they like it.
I seriously doubt it! |

someone mentioned i should just go over the existing paintwork with scotchbrite or something and paint the new colour over this, does this sound like a bad idea? cheers for the replies, gav |
