elbow grease and lots of it.............

you need to get any filler work finished to absolute perfection, as soon as you lay any paint on it will stick out like a sore knob otherwise.

yea plenty of elbow greese and a good sander.

yea if you do a large area with filler aswell it may be worth your wile whipping over it with some primer, to see what it will look like.

its save my ass a few time especially with mt boot!!

yes you can get electric sanders and if your going down to primer you might aswell carry on to the meatal ists amasing what you can find under there (rust tracking looks like brown spiders web you cant see it untill its took efect and it'll rust even quiler once theres just primer on as its not water proof)

love that straight cut scream!!!

I think rubbing down by hand is the answer a sander would be good for large flat areas but there are none on a mini.
Ps I am a diy painter but have tryed most methods and the old way seems to work best.

I would say use P180 grit paper to finish it off. Dont use wetordry on filler as the water will stay in the filler and rust the metal underneath aswell as causing microblisters after the whole thing is painted, then youll have to strip it all off again. Make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies, but if it is not spot on dont worry too much because no matter how good you make it a painter, myself included would always finish it off to the way they like it.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Hi,
As mentioned by Turbo Estate there can be rust spiders hiding under the paint, waiting to jump out and bite you next spring! Also the more layers of paint on a panel the easier it chips off, trust me I know! Get some of this to put on the bare metal then prime it. Get a can of satin black paint and flick it all over your primer, when dry, get your flatting block with wet and dry on. When you sand the low spots when show up as the satin black won't disappear! Flat in a diagonal cross hatch the get it nice a flat! Hey presto you've saved yourself a lot of money, but put the time in to get a really good looking job. The paint is only the shine on your prep work! Good luck! *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin. :)
