Hi, need some info guys.

What thread is the hole in the top of the std oil filter housing (the one that goes up to the main oil gallery)?

Also, could anyone be a star and let me know the distance between the centres of the 2 holes in the block the housing attaches to (and the hole diameters if poss..8mm/5/16 its the same as a head stud if I remember correctly)?

And lastly, the size of the indentation inbetween the 2 holes?

Im at uni and havent got a block handy to measure, making up an adapter for a remote filter...

Much appreciated

Jo

Cheers tom, if the threads 3/8 UNC, what should I make the holes for a clearance fit on the bolts?
Or, put simpler whats a 3/8 UNC bolts max diameter? Would 10mm do?

Been chatting to a mate on msn, he gave me:

Distance between hole centres 1 7/16"
Recess diameter 3/4"

He couldnt tell me the thread of the oil filter housing take off though....anyone....?

The thread you mention is a really ofdd thread. If I were you I'd make it something that is easy to get pipes and fittings for. 1/2" BSP for e.g.

Yeah I know what you mean tom, its just a already have an adapter that goes from whatever that thread is, to 5/8 bsp (came with a minispares oil cooler kit a few years back).

I apologise for the shit drawing, but this is what im gonna knock up. Does anyone else want one while im at it? I can make the outlet whatever thread you want (or leave the drilling/tapping of the outlet to you).

cheers again

Thinking about it does make sense to use a generic size....ill use one of these:

does anyone know where to get a few cheaper?

What is it?

I'm going to guess it's a take-off plate - and you'll mount the filter elsewhere?

yep, a take off for a remote filter.

do you think 3/4 bsp fittings will restrict the flow at all?
i wouldnt think so, but what would you say was the smallest fitting to safely go to?

sorry about all the questions, im having one of those (bad) days!

1/2" BSP is what is commonly used on Mini oil cooler pipe kits. 5/8" or 3/4" BSP is HUGE!

Remember the 1/2 or 3/4 refers to the pipe bore, not the thread size.

Are you assuming that the pipes you are getting with the stuff of ebay you posted the link for earlier are 5/8BSP? As I would be suprised if they are. If I were you I'd wait till they turn up and check for yourself.........

fair point.
Thinking about it, the ones i have from minispares are externally about 1" thick, so i dont know...

Anyway, once Ive got all the measurments confirmed, Ill go ahead and make the take off, using 1/2 BSP, then buy a suitable adapter once the hoses etc arrive.

Cheers for all your help

Jo

Yeah, thats the one minispares sells too, but im after one with a 'top exit', otherwise the hosing causes just as much as an obstruction as the original oil filter assembly....

Anyway, gonna knock a few up, as it will only take a little longer to to a batch of 10 as it would just 1.

Hi,
Ok, cool. I would have thought a 90degree fitting on the end wouldn't be too bad, but yours will definately save space. The outlet fitting on that one is 1/2 inch BSP.
Cheers,
Gavin. :)
